Teeth?
SWIM just recently started using meth and is worried mostly about one thing, his teeth... I remember from school how they said a major problem with meth was how bad/quickly it fucked up your teeth, my question is, do your teeth only get effected if you smoke it? (SWIM only snorts/orals)

Keep your mouth clean
The reason speed causes damage to most tweakers teeth is from poor hygein while high. Just remember to brush, floss, use litsterine, and regular dentist visits and teeth should be fine. If it is a mjor concern than a different method of use is recomended. The chemicals can eat away the enamel of teeth so its important to take care of your mouth. It also causes blood restriction in the mouth which is not good. Be good.

well the hygein has some to do with it, but mostly the tooth damage is cause by the amphetimines making the person clench their jaws which causes tiny cracks in the teeth that can leave unprotected spots inside your tooth to get infected and cavities, and even cause your teeth to chip and break off eventually. we've all seen the old tweeker talking for hours to stop, spit out a peice of a tooth, and continue back in the sentence the ended with. lol

When using speed it results usually in having a very dry mouth, and this also causes damage to tweakers teeth. Teeth need to be moist to keep in in good health, and when they get to dry it can also result is tiny cracks in the enamel. The bacteria find those weak spots and cause cavities. When untreated the infection will destoy the teeth from the inside out and they will eventually break off...

so... checklist:
-don't clench/grind your teeth, carry some chewing gum -brush those babies -i dunno about the amphetamine directly effecting the enamel of the teeth. better to keep the contact short -NUTRITION! this is the main concern of all substance abuse is that abusers (Westerners?) do not eat a balanced diet with appropriate vitamines and minerals blood circulation is a concern, as it constricts the arteries and increases heartrate, resulting in poor blood flow to extremities (for example fingers and joints) so unless you can do anything about that, just take care of yourself. |

"Meth Mouth" - smiles suffer from methamphetamine use
KHQA on-line
Monday, May 08, 2006 Ingesting ingredients like bleach and Drano do more than just hurt the soft tissue in your stomach. Methamphetamine rots away the teeth in you mouth, creating "meth mouth." Your smile is one of the first things people notice about you. So a mouth full of rotting teeth and gums probably isn't the first impression you'd like to make. This so-called "meth mouth" is one of the first signs of a methamphetamine user. ![]() In this KHQA Safe Family Health report, KHQA tells you how dentists are dealing with the "Meth Mouth" epidemic. Bleach, cold tablets, Drano, anhydrous ammonia. It's no wonder someone ingesting these materials would end up with their teeth rotting away. "Most everything in meth is a corrosive material and they consume enormous amounts of carbonated beverages and they're on highs for so long, they don't brush their teeth or take care of them so the combination is there just to eat up everything," Dr. Bill Esicar said. "Meth Mouth" is one of the most visible signs of a methamphetamine user. The drug constricts blood tissue and causes inflammation. This causes the tissue to recede, leaving more of the teeth vulnerable. It also eats away at the teeth's enamel. "It can chew up and eat up enamel, which is one of the body's hardest structures," Esicar said. "Just think of what it's doing to the soft tissues of the stomach and intestines." Treatment depends on the length of time a person has used meth and how much they've used. The longer a person is on the drug, the more likely they will have to have all of their teeth pulled and end up with dentures. The earlier you get treatment, the better the chance for general reconstructive work. But a trip to the dentist won't do much good if you don't kick the meth habit for good. Meth affects more than just your appearance. A recent study from the Journal of Dental Research found oral health can directly affect your physical health, especially when it comes to the heart. Methamphetamine Facts: -- As of 2005, the top 10 states in America where meth labs were discovered goes as follows: 1. Missouri = 2252 2. Indiana = 987 3. Illinois = 951 4. Tennessee = 848 5. Iowa = 753 6. Kentucky = 583 7. Washington = 501 8. California = 479 9. Kansas = 387 10. Ohio = 377 -- According to the 2003 National Survey on Drug Use and Health, 12.3 million Americans age 12 and older had tried methamphetamine at least once in their lifetimes (5.2 percent of the population), with the majority of past-year users between 18 and 34 years of age. Significant decreases in past year use were seen among 12- to 17-year-olds. Klaatu |
