opiate tolerance - how long to establish? (not the usual ?)

If one were to be given too high a dose of an opiate, and continued to take this dose despite side effects, how long should it take the body to become accustomed to the dose?

Say, if I were to be prescribed 100mg of morphine daily, and this was too much, causing nausea, blurred vision, etc, how long would it take my body to become used to this dose?

asking for a friend - thanks in advance,

~K.Elise

Its very dependent on your body, but even after one use some tolerance develops. If SWIK were taking the morphine daily then tolerance should develop very quickly. And if the morphine is not being taken for a pain issue, dependence could also develop very quickly. If this is a recreational user they should be careful with their use.

Sadly, it's been weeks, and this person, despite tiny decreases in dose (idiot doc orders), doesn't seem to be adjusting well.

An anti-nausea medication was introduced, and that's helped somewhat, but I believe by the action of reducing nausea so my friend can actually eat and isn't taking the medication on an empty stomach, and also is now getting nutrition again.

The medication isn't morphine, it's actually methadone - I didn't want to be specific for fear of someone figuring out who I am IRL, but I really don't have anyone but y'all to ask. I assume my friend will level out at some point, but the clinic will only allow this person to go down 5mg a week - due to a misunderstanding of how methadone works, my friend went up too much, too fast.

It's been 2 or 3 weeks now since my friend started decreasing, and this person is still having trouble. :/ Like I said, the anti-nausea medication helped tremendously, but there are still other side effects to deal with that I'm almost positive are due to too much methadone, as I am prescribed it for chronic pain and the symptoms my friend describes are exactly what I've experienced on the few occassions I've taken far too much in an effort to stop the pain on severe days.

The clinic my friend goes too has rules that you can only go down 5mg a week, even though my friend has explained over and over the symptoms. *sigh*

Thanks for any insights y'all can provide.
