Purity tests for Heroin
Im sure you all have seen movies where people test cocaine purity by seeing the temp at which it burns ect. I don't know if that is even real, if it is can that be done with H? If not what is the test. How does say, a law official test the purity of H without someone trying it. If there was an easy and acessable way to do it wouldnt that take the issue of purity away and prevent overdoses?

cops don't use their little kits to look for cocaine/heroin purity, they check for a certain chemical reaction signifying whether or not if it is, in fact, the real thing (and not just baking-soda)

In terms of the heast test for heroin purity there are some major problems. Heroin's melting point is 173c, while the most popular cutting agents are tylenol and caffeine which have melting points of 170c and over 300c respectively. Thus the heat test would most likely not work to check for heroin purity. The test for cocaine purity I can't really vouch for, sorry.

so how does a purity test work? When it is said "such and such reagion has an average purity of (your # here) percent" how do they get that figure. Is the test something the common person could perform? Or is it some kind of elaborate lab process unacessable to the average citizen?
