Morphine and withdrawel?

Hey all, just a question for my own curiosity.

SWIM is a regular user of weaker opiates ie Codeine, Hydrocodone, Hydromorphone and occasionally a user of morphine.

2 weeks ago SWIM was taken into hospital with severe abdomen pains, he has been having this problem for nearly 3 years now but it has recently got worse and the consultants and doctors are doing many tests to discover the problem and give SWIM a diagnosis.

When Swim was taken into hospital he was in severe amounts of pain and therefore was given very large dosages of morphine repetativly for 3 days. SWIM guesses that he was given 10 mg of morphine ever 2 hours of 3 days. Many nurses and doctors said this was a high dosage but SWIM isn't sure. Most of the morphine was administered Intravenously and occasionally orally via oromorphe. SWIM had no problems with nausia of sickness due to the cyclizine being administered simultaniously preventing the usual nausiating effects of opiates. It should also be noted SWIM never gets sickness with his abdomen problem.

After coming off the morphine after a 3 day binge in hospital as it were SWIM became rapidly very sick, vomiting ever 30 minutes and felt very hot, clammy and feverish. This lasted for about 16 hours and was possibly one of the most unpleasent experiences SWIM has ever had. SWIM then quickly recovered without any problems. SWIM has heard about heroin addicts going "Cold Turkey" and such and doesnt for one minute compare his experience to theirs but SWIM was curious however whether he had experienced a similar reaction due to him being removed off morphine.

Any light on the subject would be appriciated

Pete

SWIM has had shitty withdrawal from phine. SWIM got real sick for almost a week and couldnt keep any food down. SWIM believes and is in consensus with friends that wellbutrin helps with withdrawal as well as tyrosine(dopamine precursor) and multivitamins to restore more normal activity to the brain. SWIM remembers how horrid the experience was but swears by wellbutrin if SWIM has some at his disposal.

I'm just curious - where did you get the idea that hydromorphone (Dilaudid) is a "weaker" opiate?

if it didnt last days, this would have to be the most mild withdrawal SWIM has ever heard of, but all the symptoms sound like a classic withdrawal.

Hydromorphone is quite a bit stronger than morphine, I believe. I just looked on a opioid conversion chart and it says 1.3 to 1.5mg of Hydromorphone is equivilent to 10mg morphine.

Hey it's all good, man. If you want to see how they all compare to each other, just do a google search of opioid equivalency charts. Check the website as coming from a reliable information source and viola.
