Wild Lettuce Extract (From Health Food Store)
SWIM just bought an extract of Wild Lettuce. On the bottle it says:
"WILD LETTUCE (LATUCA SPP.) Aged, Organic &Wildcrafted Whole Plant Concentrate of Unparalleled Potency." suggested dose is 10-30 drops (2-5x daily) 100% Mother Tincture. Doesn't really say exactly what is in it... Is this extract worthwhile to experiment with? How much should SWIM ingest? Would it be better to maybe dip a cigarette in the solution, leave it to dry and smoke it? SWIM is interested in the "opium-like" effects. Anyway, please help SWIM decide how much to take, and how to take it (if it's even worth it.) Thanks. |

I called them and they said it has APPROXIMATELY 6mg per drop.
What type of dose would be good to start with? I've read about 20-30grams. Or is that how much of the plant material you need? Thanks. |

swim believes that wild lettuce, from everything he's read, doesnt produce much of an opium like effect, so swim would say its not worth it. but swim would say to start with 15 drops, since its half of the max suggested dose, and work one's way up from there. since you can always dose up if its too weak, but you can never dose back down if its too strong.

slight effects were noticed by SWIM and his girlfriend. Both decided to take another 15 drops each. Hopefully this will bump up the effects.
SWIM felt (although very very very subtle) relaxation, slight euphoria, a feeling of "about to lose coordination" and even slight visual distortion (very slight. Probably placebo.) Anyway, I'll let you know how the rest of their adventure goes! If anyone else wants to chime in (with real info) and tell them to take more, go right ahead, as of now SWIM has no idea on dose. |

Lactuca sp. contain hyoscine and hyoscyamine - which are tropine alkaloids. Same as is found in Jimson Weed and Deady Nightshade. While very small amounts may have a relaxing effect, and have been used as sedatives in medicine, WATCH OUT!
If one finds a little is making one feel sort of floaty and good, one may be inclined to increase the dosage. This can result in full-blown datura-type poisoning. Read: 3 days not knowing whom or what you are while battling minotaurs in the dryest desert in the galaxy. Hospitalisation is generally required - unless one has a very large friend willing to sit on one for the duration to keep the victim from staggering out in the road and getting hit by a bus. |

In old literature (Frohne & Pfänder 1983) there have been notes of a hyoscamine-like alkaloid present in Lactusa virosa, but this has never been proved. New studies claim this is not present. I'll post more about this here:
