New coating for Opana ER?

My friend has had the green 20 mg and the red 30 mg of Opana ER in the past. She noticed that the outer coating was flexible and rubbery. She recently got some yellow 40 mg and the coating was hard, brittle and chalky.

Has there always been this difference in texture for the yellow, or has there been some change in the coating? If so, any other changes that you know of?

thanks

Good question.

Re: New coating for Opana ER?

SWIM is pretty sure they reformulated there TimeX technology to make it much more difficult to bypass the extended release mechanism.

Does that have an effect on insufflation, or just attempts at IV administration?

Re: New coating for Opana ER?

Both... If a person takes off the coating and crushes it to snort, it won't break the TimeX mechanism... same thing occurs when a person crushes the pill and places it into water, it becomes like a "Jelly Blob" so it can't be injected.

The best way SWIM has heard of injecting these is placing the pill into water, letting the pill soak for 24hrs which then will expand and the morphine will be released... once completed then take out the expanded pill, filter solution and inject.

The red 30s should have their outer coating scraped off before infufflation, the yellow 40s without the coating can just be powdered and snorted without any problem. If this is your preferred ROA, the coating that is scraped off can be eaten so nothing is wasted.

I haven't noticed a change in any of the pills over the last couple of years. That is how they have always been.

So, the coating has nothing to do with the TimerX?

Re: New coating for Opana ER?

Taking off the coating won't effect the TimeX mechasim, taking off the coating (except 40mg) is definitely recommended though.

SWIM concurs, the ER version has been the same at least the past couple years.

Re: New coating for Opana ER?

This all makes sense now . . . There has always been a debate on this forum as to whether you need to take the coating off and how it should be taken off. It must be due to the confusion caused by the yellow being different than the other two. The green and red coating is very thick and must be taken off. The yellow seems to be just sprayed on and it does not need to be taken off.

Curious though: why would they have such different manufacturing processes just for the outer color?

Re: New coating for Opana ER?

Endo pharmaceuticals are now using the TIMERx®-N delivery system, i’m not sure how the release profile differs from the TIMERx® system but it’s certainly something worth looking in to.

Inactive Ingredients: hypromellose, methylparaben, silicified microcrystalline cellulose, sodium stearyl fumarate, TIMERx®-N, titanium dioxide, and triacetin. The 5 mg, 10 mg, 15 mg, 20 mg, and 30 mg tablets also contain macrogol, and polysorbate 80. In addition, the 5 mg, 7.5 mg, and 30 mg tablets contain iron oxide red. The 7.5 mg tablets contain iron oxide black, and iron oxide yellow. The 10 mg tablets contain FD&C yellow No. 6. The 20 mg tablets contain FD&C blue No. 1, FD&C yellow No. 6, and D&C yellow No. 10. The 40 mg tablets contain FD&C yellow No. 6, D&C yellow No.10, and lactose monohydrate.

If i find out any more information you can be sure i’ll post it here.

Re: New coating for Opana ER?

I just posted another thread before reading this. Something is up. Just got increased to 30mg Opanas 3x a day. Insufflation seems to result in LESS effects than the old 20mg tablets I was taking. The coating seems a little weird now. It almost comes off like eraser shavings. Crushing seems to work just as well in terms of how fine the powder gets. No notice of increased gelling in the nasal cavities. These do not work for me at ALL now. It's horrible

Re: New coating for Opana ER?

Yep, just confirmed it. Seems to be luck of the draw now whether you get the new shitty pills, or the old amazing pills. I got the old ones this time. I am going to stick to pharmacies that don't get much business for the next refills.

Re: New coating for Opana ER?

Has anyone tried the old "crisping" method used for OC's? Crush and microwave for short bursts to destroy the time release but not the drug. I used it successfully on a waxy OC 40 once, worked perfectly and didn't seem to lower the potency to any noticeable extent.
