Interpreting Lab Test Results- Reference Ranges

Does anyone know how to*interpret Drug Test Results (Hair Follicle Test)?

Here is an example...
The lead header "Positive/ Abnormal Report". What could cause the 'abnormal' verbiage? *(hair extensions, detox shampoo, ...)

Cocaine- Positive- 13300 pg/mg
Benzoylecgonine- 3600 pg/mg
Cocaethylene- 490/mg
Norcocaine- 500/ pg/mg

Are their any other metabolites of cocaine that are not mentioned?

Test provides a 90 day history.

Are there reference ranges *to determine the level of usage (low, moderate, heavy)? *And what is the definition of each? (frequency of use, timeframe, etc.).*

From the above data, what can be determine within the 90 day range...
When the drugs were first consumed?
Level of usage?
Recent use?
Is there anything else that can be determined or estimated based on the data on the results sheet?

Re: Interpreting Lab Test Results- Reference Ranges

Wow, that's an extensive cocaine test. Usually only cocaine and benzoylecgonine are tested for. No there aren't other metabolites. Norcocaine is cleared from the body about as quickly as cocaine is, Benzoylecgonine is what sticks around for a few days. Cocaethylene is a metabolite of combined cocaine and alcohol use and may indicate co-abuse of the two drugs.

I honestly don't know much about hair testing specifically, but I can answer those questions with regards to urine and blood testing. Most of what I say should apply to hair testing.

Ranges can only tell if it's heavy use if the value is really high, other than that is hard to make an inference about use patterns. High values could also indicate very recent use.

They can't tell when the drugs were used unless there is some unmetabolized cocaine in the sample (urine or blood) which may suggest that the use was recent (within the past day or two).

Re: Interpreting Lab Test Results- Reference Ranges

Thank you for your feedback. Do these numbers seem high ? Do you know Cocaethylene's Dection period After use? When it will appear and when it will disappear...
