Amsterdam's coffees and low budjet hotels

Hi dudes,

Amsterdam's coffeeshops top 5:

-Rick's cafe (so underground, you can find booze and hot waitresses )
-Rusland ( the oldest coffeeshop, virtually a museum)
-Bluebird (amazing menu)
-Goa ( terrace, cool zik, good hasch)
-The doors palace (a legendary place too, and you can find booze)

My favorite hotel: hotel Neutraal, from 8 €/n

You want more about low budjet hotels, coffeeshops, red light district...

Seems like a cool site for roadtrippers for sure. But there is a commercial aspect of the site, and i dont know if it can stay here. Be sure you read all the rules before you post further Weeda. welcome. All hail the forum!

I usually screen hotels by reading customer reviews.

Here's one that looks good:

Is it uncommon to be able to get alcoholic beverages at these coffee shops and such?

Yes. Coffeeshops depend upon their licence. Almost all licences forbid the sales of alcohol.

Why?

I thought Rotterdam was a cool part of the Netherland experience.

Everyone's always saying "get out of Amsterdam and visit ''real' Holland," or "go to coffeeshop outside of Amsterdam for weed at better prices better experience."

Is there something about Rotterdam that disqualifies it as a destination point?

I know it's a major commerce point for W Europe w/lots of port traffic and almost completely rebuilt after bombing in WW2, but that is all I know.

I thought you assumed it was in Amsterdam as the thread title indicates. Although Rotterdam is not in my top 5 of cities to visit, I like to shops there one day, every few years. There are some nice coffeeshops there. The ambiance of Rotterdam is not as friendly as Maastricht, Groningen or Utrecht IME. There are some high tech buildings to see. Here's an impression: http://images.google.com/images?sour...gs&sa=N&tab=wi

Well, if I ever have to jump two ponds to get there, I would certainly want to see Rotterdam if only for a few days (and $65 per night at the Westin seems damned good price), although I do appreciate engeneering in conjunction with architecture so I would assume the Dutch water retention systems would be more to my personal liking.

It would probably blow me away when I'm sober, so I couldn't imagine how it would warp my mind if I saw it after a coffeeshop stop.

For the water retention systems, you'd have to go to Zeeland: http://images.google.com/images?svnu...schelde+kering
