Drug info - Xanax vs Alprazolam ??

What is the difference, I was percriibed alprozam and was on .5 mg tablets. How is this different from Xanax. It didn't do much for me even taking 2 or 3 still did not do much.

the active ingredient in xanax is alprazolam...


alprazolam is the name of the compound and xanax is the brand name


so, alprazolamn is generic for xanax (just like diazepam is for valium)

But I here some people taking Xanax bars, whats the mg of the bars compared to the pills? I took it to try and slow myself and my brain down at night before bed, just curious why alot of people like to go out and drink on this stuff.

they call it bars because they are shaped like ... bars!


they contain 2mg alprazolam...the highest dose in tablet form

I was told by a Pharmacist that the bars are not the same drug as xanax. I would rather take the blue footballs, but that's just me.................................

your pharmacist is wrong...bars are 2mg alprazolam

I remember when i ordered some i read something along the lines that alprozolam has more sleep charactistics, but i always thought they were the same damn thing

good luck getting a script. if your current doctor will not do it just change doctors and go from there.

yeah.they are exactly the same thing.Xanax is just the brand name of Alprazolam.they should both do exactly the same to you.

The only thing that would be different in the content of the pills would be the fillers, binders, and other non medical ingredients.

I have small anxiety/panic attacks...this is why my dr prescribed Xanaxfor me. I get the little pink footballs .5mg I only take them at night though. Within an hour I'm out like a light. I guess I have a low tolerance for them. Is .5mg a low dosage? I was told I could take 2 at a time but haven't tried it yet.


There are many reasons you could get these prescribed. Just keep trying...I didn't even ask for them, they were just prescribed. Lucky me....

yeah my mom has anxiety problems and gets them prescribed, i usually take like 10 or so out of the bottle of 60, fun times she gets the blur footballs and i enjoy greatly

it has been, to me, that brand-name xanax follows the following scale:


ladder=2mg; 2 bars=1 ladder


bar=1mg; 2 footballs=1bar


football=0.5mg; 2 triangles=1 football


triangle=0.25mg





I have, however, seen/heard xanax bars referred to as 2mg (ladder for me).





FWI: Alprazolam is the active chemical in xanax. Other manufactures or countries also make this compound, but they have a higher amount of inactive enantiomers (less bang per milligram).

My mom is prescribed .25 mg Alprazolam, but I have never tried them
because, correct me if I'm wrong, but recreational use would require
alotttttttt of .25 mg pills. Does anyone refer to generic alprazolam as
bars? Just curious...

This is a bit off, "bars" and "latters" are the same thing.



The Triangles by xanax are Xanax XR (extended relese alprazolam) they come in .5mg, 1mg, 2mg, and 3mg heres a pic:

wow we got some real druggy noobs here... not all of you of course, all generics with the exception of a few drugs such as comedine (a blood thinner) actually matter whether they are brand name or generic... the only difference is in the filler used in the pill... if anything, ppl who say v cuts and k cuts hit harder then generic diazapams and clonazapams are just having pyschosymatic effects... if its the same chemical its the same chemical with very few exceptions (none that i know of that are abusiable but a few cardiac medications)
