Mission Statement of the SSRI Forum

This forum is to help people learn and share knowledge about SSRI - class antidepressant (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor) drugs. Such include Prozac, Paxil (paroxetine), Zoloft, Effexor, and many others.

First hailed as a medical marvel when they first came on the marketplace in the 1980's, time has shown that these drugs have many serious and unpredictable side-effects. Including suicide (especially noted in young people/adolescents), violent rage, suppression of sexual function, insomnia - to name but a few.

One effect of these drugs that has become well known among users of recreational drugs is their ability to block the euphoric effects of MDMA (XTC). So if you are asking about this - your question has just been answered.

This forum will also address the drug Strattera. Though Strattera is not prescribed for depression and is used for ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder), it will be included due to it's also being an SSRI that was initially developed as an anti-depressant medication. Found wanting in it's effects regards this purpose, it was instead released for ADHD and touted as a substitute for drugs such as amphetamines and Ritalin (methylphenidate).

Chemically speaking, all of these drugs show similarities to amphetamine and phenethylamines both structurally and physiologically. Why this is important to understand will become clear in short order.

Please feel free to post your knowledge of these substances here. Just follow the usual rules.
