Benzodiazepine Equivalent Doses
Thought this might be useful.
Contributions to it have also come from darkbreed, kareena, Moda00, and WeareStardust Brand names for these drugs can be found here... http://www.drugs-forum.com/forum/sho...ht=brand+names She appreciates that benzos have different sedative, anxiolytic and myorelaxant properties but this is essentially a tool for converting to diazepam (usually for withdrawal purposes)
Non-benzodiazepines with similar effects Zaleplon (Sonata) 2, 20mg Zolpidem (Ambien) 2, 20mg Zopiclone (Zimovane) 5-6, 15mg Sources: Ashton, pubmed, the lovely folk from df Last edited by Jatelka; 21-10-2008 at 08:43. Reason: Clarification + Correction |

Great info, SWIM is glad to have access to many benzo's and this table helped significantly.

If I am not mistaken, you did not include the following Benzodiazepine's (Click on each one for a bit more info):
D03083 Bentazepam (USAN) D03631 Cyprazepam (USAN) D01293 Ethyl Loflazepate (JAN); Meilax (TN) D01286 Flutazolam (JAN); Coreminal (TN) D01279 Flutoprazepam (JAN); Restas (TN) Sorry I'm too lazy to report the dosages/mg available in, half-lives, equivalent dosages, etc., but check out http://www.genome.jp/dbget-bin/get_htext?Drug+-f+F+A (1st Level) and/or http://www.genome.jp/dbget-bin/get_htext?Drug+-f+F+E (5th level) for more info (You can also do a text search). Although all the meds listed on the page are not available in the USA, some are, some can be imported, some are illegal/banned, etc. it is still a great page. Has information for other types of meds besides benzos as well, such as narcotics, barbituates, etc. too. Thought you all may appreciate it. Pz. Last edited by Jatelka; 10-10-2008 at 08:49. Swim never really understood these charts, equivalency of dose in reference to what? (IE: sedation, anti- convulsive, what)

Equivalence is to diazepam, for the purposes of alleviating withdrawal symptoms when detoxing. Therefore 0.5mg Alprazolam equates roughly to 10mg diazepam, which equates roughly to 20mg Temazepam.

Re: Benzodiazepine Equivalence
I'm working on a list containing all known benzodiazepines. If anyone have information about the substanses in the list (equivalence, half-life & active metabolites), I would be grateful! The substanses in red, I have no info about, the substanses in orange, I only have the half-life , the green is complete already.
But I have the CAS-number for every substanse, if needful! Benzodiazepines:
Non benzodiazepines, but with similar effect:

Re: Benzodiazepine Equivalence
Welcome Psychopatic: That would indeed be an astonishing resource!
FYI: Nivaripine and Tivirapine are non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors used to treat HIV infection (they stop the virus replicating) Tibenzonium iodide is an anti infective agent used for oral hygiene Tarazepide is a cholecystekinin A antagonist (pancreatic enzyme antagonist) Sarmazenil is a benzodiazepine receptor inverse partial agonist. It has effects similar to flumazenil which is used to REVERSE the effects of benzodiazepines Homochlorcyclizine is an anti-histamine (H1 receptor antagonist) similar to promethezine with some anti-cholinergic and antibradykinin activity Dibenzepine is (as far as SWIJ can work out) a tricyclic antidepressant Good luck in SWIY's quest, and please take some time to read the rules and find out a bit more about how df works! Re: Benzodiazepine Equivalence
Thank You!
I these substanses came up when I searched, all of the had "-xxx-benzodiazepin-xxx", in their generic names. But like clozapine, which is a medicine to treat schizophrenia, it's even called a dibenzodiazepin. |

Re: Benzodiazepine Equivalent Doses
Zopiclone's brand name is Immovane (typo) also SWIM disagrees with the Ashton Manual on the Zopiclone dose, she says 7.5mg of Zopiclone or less would be equivalent to 0.5mg of Clonazepam, definitely not 15mgs. When SWIM first started taking Zopiclone 3.75mg would knock her out.

Re: Benzodiazepine Equivalent Doses
The equivalence is to Diazepam, not Clonazepam. And Zopiclone IS marketed as Zimovane (in the UK anyway)

Re: Benzodiazepine Equivalent Doses
Further research turns up a more accurate half-life for Rivotril (clonazepam) as between 40 and 150 hours. So it does have a pretty high range and the top end is quite high, which is what I suspected.
Anything with the same figures as diazepam, such as the excellent prazepam (Centraz, Lysanxia 40mg) has the active metabolite nordazepam. I particularly like to use the 15mg nordazepam available in many european countries, especially the excellent NORDAZ, which appears to be on sale in France only now. Calmday is more common, but Nordaz is a higher quality anxiolytic. Last edited by Jatelka; 10-10-2008 at 08:54. |

Re: Benzodiazepine Equivalent Doses
the tyrant has done a little research on some missing info, maybe you'd
like to add these to the chart: Haloxazolam - no info found until now ![]() --- Camazepam - mainly hypnotic Camazepam (marketed under the brand names Albego, Limpidon, and Paxor) is the dimethyl carbamate salt of temazepam, a metabolite of diazepam. It possesses anxiolytic, anticonvulsant, sedative and skeletal muscle relaxant properties. Compared to temazepam, camazepam has shown greater anticonvulsant properties, roughly equal anxiolytic properties, and less sedative and amnestic properties. http://jacki.wikidoc.org/index.php/Camazepam --- Fludiazepam - mainly anxiolytic http://www.flexyx.com/E/Erispan.html --- Tofisopam - anxiolytic (has no sedative or anticonvulsant effects!) --- Doxefazepam is a benzodiazepine hypnotic equivalence 7,5 mg - 15 mg http://inchemsearch.ccohs.ca/inchem/...39&Search.y=15 --- Etizolam - hypnotic, anxiolytic Etizolam has an anxiolytic action about 6 times greater than that of diazepam. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Etizolam --- Mexazolam - anxiolytic --- Nimetazepam - half-life 14-30 hours, equivalence 5 mg http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nimetazepam --- Pinazepam - anxiolytic, is a prodrug of N-desmethyldiazepam, equivalence 10 mg http://www.biomedexperts.com/Abstrac...methyldiazepam --- Cinolazepam - hypnotic, sedative --- Delorazepam - half-life ~ 100 hours - equivalence 1 mg, mainly anxiolytic, also hypnotic http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Delorazepam http://www.torrinomedica.it/farmaci/...he/Dadumir.asp quote from manufacturers site: "04.1 Indicazioni terapeutiche - Disturbi d’ansia. Re: Benzodiazepine Equivalent Doses
Ok.. there was so much to read I couldn't even see anything.. but out of curiosity how many milligrams of Diazepam would be considered a dose?
nathan8it added 3 Minutes and 46 Seconds later... See.. I saw that it said Diazepam 10mg -- but a 10mg valium can't have 10mg's of Diazepam in it.. I know that this confusion is my stupidity.. but it's really bothering me so please help me! Last edited by nathan8it; 06-06-2009 at 00:43. Reason: Automerged Doublepost |

Re: Benzodiazepine Equivalent Doses
Actually, yes it can! Valium™ is the brand name of a drug that contains diazepam as the main and active ingrediant. You could use the terms interchangeably in the United States but it might provide some confusion, say, in Mexico where the brand name of diazepam is different.
Using the chemical name helps to alleviate (most) confusion on DFF (this website) since it is an international forum. I don't know if this clears anything up for you but just know this: A "beginners" dose of diazepam (brand name Valium™) can range from 2 mg to 10 mg depending on medical need, age of the patient and other medications that the person is on at the time. |

Re: Benzodiazepine Equivalent Doses
Apologies for SWIM's ignorance on the topic, but is 0.5mg Clonazepam and Alprazolam roughly the same strength as 10mg Diazapam?
Also, how does Clonazapam compare to Alprazolam/Lorazepam in terms of onset of action? |

every one goese to these equivelency charts on google or wiki......but they are not very accurate. from prsonal exp. i've done (and im not bragging) almost evry benzo...and there are like 60 to85 different benzos. i've done all the subtypes...and even did old soviet union benzos that are illegal here. those charts u need to take w/ agrain a salt.

The onset of action of Clonazepam is considerably slower, unless taken in the Klonopin wafer form (sublingual). Start of therapeutic window generally begins .5 hour to 45 mins after ingestion. |

Re: Benzodiazepine Equivalent Doses
Everyone should be aware that the table listed was intended for those trying to switch drugs to taper off them. I find it nowhere near accurate for the therapeutic effects.
20mg diazepam is far more effective for me than 4mg xanax would be, over the course of the day. It’s really hard to compare these things in a chart when the half-lives are so different. I guess if you gave someone 10mg Valium and then .5mg Xanax and asked them how they felt on each after 30 minutes, then it might come out as a wash. I dislike this take because it doesn’t take into account that certain benzos are plasma bound and accumulate in your system while others don’t’, thus making them more potent over time. I also don’t like it because the half-life times listed don’t seem anywhere near the therapeutic range of each drug (I’ve been RX’ed many of them). I won’t get into the obscure ones, but I’ve never had a dose of Xanax last past 6 hours, and Lorazepam can easily last 10+ hours. |
