I did a little experiment today with the knife i use for hotknifing hash. Ive been using the same one for a while, and there was a black sticky layer of something on it, so i scraped the layer off with another knife and put it on the table.

At first, i thought it was just ashes from the hash (it's good hash, but not 100% top of the line). But then, i started shaping these "ashes" into a ball, and it felt exactly like really good, softly packed hash. Stickyness and everything. Although it did smell like regular ashes.

I put the newly formed ball back on the knife and lit it. That baby flamed up instantly, and i thought it might be like pure THC that didn't previously burn. So i took a big hit of the smoke (wich tasted horrible, nothing like normal hash). At first i thought i had made a big mistake, and that it was just useless non-THC scrap material from hash. But i actually got a strong buzz off it.

What was this mistery substance? It tasted like ashes to smoke, it smelled like ashes, but yet it was soft and shapable and got me a buzz. From now on, ill always use the same knife for hotknifing. And once in a while i'll scrape off this buzzing substance off the knife and smoke it too.

Sounds like a sticky build up of hash oil, just like a pipe gathers up tars and resins. After scraping your left with a potent but highly carcinogenic tar quite similar to that of the coating of the marijuana smokers lungs.

when you scrape a pipe you are left with a buildup of resin and oil that formed on the pipe due to the condensing of smoke. some people like to smoke this because it is like a crude hash.

scraping a knife seems like it would only leave you with the the tars and oils that did not vaporize in the first place, because the ones you want would not have the chance to condense on a hotknife.

so no i doubt it would be more dangerous than smoking hash, but chances you're just getting all the leftover junk with very little or no thc.

Are you using a hotplate or torch to heat the blades? If you are using a torch then what Senor says is pretty much true, cause that torch really heats those babys up. Swim finds though that when using the stove hotplates there will be more residue left because the blades arent nearly as hot.
Either way what u got is a mixture of old ash and some left over resin. And if your getting a rip out of it then its all good!

I would think that since if you smoke pot out of something then it builds up resin and hash is just a part of cannabis that is pressed to make a certain product then it would only make sense that if someone where to repeatedly use the same appparatus to smoke hash with that it would then as well build up a store of "hash resin". simple concept really. to restate in case someone missed this... i would say what you have would be called resin generally or "hash resin" to make the distinction about exactly what kind of cannabis residue it is that you have. i dont know for a fact but i would conjecture that this resin probably has damn close to if not identical chemical composition to regular run of the mill resin although possibly slightly stronger and more concentrated. to say that it would possibly be dangerous to smoke this resin seems foolish. if you smoke buds or hash or resin or keef or anything its all bad for your lungs but as far as the drug world goes it is far from "dangerous". smoking resin from a 2C-T-7 pipe(were there ever such a thing and i hope there isnt) would be "dangerous". smoking cannabis resin for 30 years now that might be different. but as far as i think if your smoking the shit then i wouldnt worry too much about the dangers because its not going to kill you fast enough to not be able to stop it if you are that concerned.

You can say that again. SWIM was fucking delighted to see that there was a resin buildup right in his bowl across from the opening that led to the mouth of the user. And that's what got him high last night. ^_^

ok swim *harvested* all the blackk crap off the pipes, and i must say it was only a very small amount but it got swim very high, but this may be due to the fact swim hast smoked anything in about 2 weeks...

what you have there is indeed just the same resin that forms in a pipe and on a roach, and the same shit that makes bongwater cloudy. it will get you just as high as the hash that made it, no more. i personally wouldnt smoke it, coz its the same as the last tokes of a dying spliff (hence the shitty taste and smell)

I have to disagree. The crap inside a pipe or bong etc is just that, crap. It is a residue / tar from smoke that has already been heated. However when using hotknives, the smoking material is not heated to the same extreme, so if one uses too big of a piece of hash, a portion will not burn before the knives cool down. What you have is a mixture of unburnt hash (good) and burnt ash (bad). A vaporizer would be the safest way to consume this.

SWIM recently scraped out his cheap metal pipe and rubbed the brown/black cruddy tar from inside with a paperclip, he then smeared it all over a paper, filled with tobacco and smoked it, it tastes really foul and smells foul too and the smell sticks with you afterwards. SWIM had been smoking bud and tobacco mix in the pipe for the last few days, the only other time it was used was last halloween. this sticky tar liquid didn't do much if anything for swim, he has a sneaking feeling he had procured more tobacco tar than resin from the bud, that being said he did feel a little something or nothing, could just be lack of oxygen / smoking marlboro without a filter / CO2 or CO.

so it must be made of the same ingredients as smoke. This is not to say in the same proportions, because some components of the smoke may be more sticky or have higher melting points. So, just as potent, more so tar-filled. Its shit you'd be smoking anyway, so why waste it?

In most cases the resin will Fuk you up, I garentee it... Burn it long and smooth keep the flame on there and the black resin will start bubbling like as molten tar should. A small pinch should produce large amounts of white smoke, tho each hit is less potent as a hit of real bud of equal size.

Remember, long, large slow burning hits... Keep the flame on it for a while let that shit cook!


And Don't listen to anyone who tells you otherwise... SWIM does this all the time and its widely known around these parts(LA county)... Others who say this resin is crap and useless couldn't be more wrong. Its NOT harsh, the pipe will get really hot (if nice long hits are used) it DOES taste and smell like shit, and the high is just as good as some shit you will pickup, and its FREE WHY NOT(too an extent)?
