Re: anyone ever got into legal troubles from ordering RC's over the net?
*bump*.
Swim would offer this advice:
1) Use Tor! The government now has very extensive logging of data and can easily pick out key words automatically. Though Tor might be a little suspicious, enough students use it to download torrents over a firewall that they shouldn't have any automatic action.
2) Use Linux, TrueCrypt the entire drive.
3) Once you order, take out your original HD and replace it with a dummy (install simple things, don't do anything illegal.) That way, seizing the computer will provide them with nothing.
4) Order over a different computer. That way you can claim that somebody tried to frame you by ordering it for you.
But swim had some other questions. How do they scan these things? Do they x-ray some percentage of the mail? Has there ever been a case of LE showing up (in the US) and arresting people when the package arrives? What's the worst that's happened to anyone?
Oh, also. Make sure you keep your RCs well hidden and keep them very far apart from any scheduled items. Stay safe.
