swim got prescribed a 2 week supply and did indeed like it. swim now just got prescribed to xanax. i know most people do like the xanax better as a euphoric feeling but i want peoples opinions on my next question. If you were to be prescribed 2 mg a day of kpins or 2mg a day of xanex which would you prefer? The reason im asking is kpins are supposed to be double the strength per mg and that it had a longer half life. anyone have any input im new here. good site/

SWIM is not sure where SWIY heard that Clonazepam is double the strength per mg than Alprazolam but this is not true. They do have a longer half life yes, as Alprazolam is a short acting benzodiazepine, whereas Clonazepam is mid-long acting.

This all depends on what SWIY is looking for. Alprazolam's main action is as an anxiolytic. Clonazepam does have anxiolytic properties as well but it also has other therapuetic uses such as muscle relaxation.

Alprazolam also has a higher addiction potential and can impair ones ability to form everyday tasks as well as ones memory. Don't get SWIM wrong, as Clonazepam can do the same but SWIM believes it is easier to function on Clonazepam.

SWIM would go with the Clonazepam personally as he feels he could use the drug as prescribed. When SWIM takes Alprazolam his cravings increase and he ends up eating more and more of his prescription. He loses control of himself with Alprazolam.

Also please refer to prescription drugs by they're drug name rather than their brand names as this is an international forum and brand names change all around the world so some people in Europe or other areas may not know what SWIY is talking about.

swim has bad insomnia. and was prescribed xanax to help knock swim out. and most of the time it helps swim fall asleep howevr not actualy STAY asleep. probbaly due to the fact that xanax effects only last about 4 hours. the other con to xanax is that it impairs his memory a bit and sometimes one the xanax he has intense dreams/nightmares. the pros to xanax is that it is recreational.

but swims main concern is his sleep. so swim was thinking of going on clonazepam instead since it effects last longer than that of alprazolam. however swim also of course enjoys a benzo'z recreational effects and that would realy be a plus.

so would clonazepam be a good sleep aid as well as recreational apposed to alprozolam?

BTW: swim only uses a benzo once a week (2 times max) he figures if he can get 10 hours of sleep one night it would make up for the regular 4-5 hours he noramly gets the rest of the week.

I know temazepam and quazepam are both more geared toward putting people to sleep well. Quazepam lacks in any recreational value but it also has the benefit of being able to be used repeatedly without developing tolerance therefore eliminating withdrawals. Also quazepam is very long acting. Temazepam I think has more of a recreational edge but it's also a shorter acting one.

IF SWIY is strictly going between the two it seems like clonazepam is well-regarded as recreationally potent so switching to it for its hypnotic purposes seems like a good plan.

Tell your doctor about your concerns. Alprazolam exists in extended release form, clonazepam is good for SWIMS's anxiety but nothing beats alprazolam for sleep.

That's only SWIM case. In his opinion clonazepam takes quite a bit to take effect and lasts too long for a desired sleep dose.

what about clonazepams effects on memory? with lorazepam it makes his memory "choppy". he cant remember the order of event in which things happened. and with alprazolam he sometimes blacks out gaps of the night or his memory is like remembering a dream that you kinda remember. swim is hoping clonazepam doesnt effect his memory as such. any info on that?

i have also heard of amny claiming to feel cozy and euphoric on klonopin. which is odd because swim figured benzo's werent very euphoric. he also hasnt heard anybody claim about any notable euphoria on xanax or any other benzo's. just klonopin.

swim doesn't really like xanax (alprazolam). it's too short acting. swim is prescribed clonazepam. he likes that much better. he could probably get any benzodiazepine but prefers clonazepam. even for recreational value. clonazepam is not very hypnotic. but and benzo is going to be hypnotic in the right dose. so if swiy gets a strong dose of clonazepam, swim thinks that's the way to go as it is longer acting for the sleep. but swiy may want to try temazepam. that is for sleep. xanax isn't necessarily meant for sleep. anyways, good luck.

^^Clonazepam is definitely sweet... It's an aniety killer, and not very sedating. Memory is affected as with any other benzo swims's tried. SWIM feels no specific euphoria, but he is more sociable and relaxed and probably he feels a bit of mood lift.

Alprazolam is perfect for swims sleep, 1 mg makes a good dose to have a good sleep. When he started taking it he remembers very vivid dreams, but they were pleasant

SWIM recomends medium long acting hypnotic benzos for insomnia, the best SWIM has tried are Loprazolam and Lormetazepam, they don't leave swim too "zonked" in the morning but last for a whole night

My dog loves clonazapam, it just seems like it keeps my dog higher, for a longer amount of time. Although my dog hasn't taken as nearly as many xannies as he has Kpins, but from my dog's experience clonazapam is absolutely awesome!

SWIM enjoys clonazepam more than alprazolam. I definitely feel more euphoric/mood uplift from clonazepam. I also really like the longer half life of clonazepam.

Okay, there are over 4 pages of this thus far, with varying opinions. Some have been right on, and some have been not so accurate. Here is an opinion from SWIM with unfortunately more than average experience:

Before I start another one of my long posts, I should first let you know that SWIM has been an IV opiate/opioid addict on and off for 7 years now. Mostly heroin; along with methadone, fentanyl, oxycontin(oxycodone), dilaudid(hyrdromorphone), opana(oxymorphone), and MS Contin(morphine sulfate). Those are the regulars, but there are many many more SWIM can't remember/doesn't feel like typing. Right now SWIM is sticking to his Subutex(buprenorphine) maintenance and it is working great thus far.

Because of SWIM being his junky self, he has a higher than normal tolerance to benzos. When chasing the dragon, he loves his benzos mainly for detox/opiate potentiation reasons. Because of this fact he can differentiate between the different types of benzos better that the average Joe. Thus far (that he can remember) he has tried:
Rohypnol(flunitrazepam)
Xanax(alprazolam)
Klonopin(clonazepam
Triazolam(halcion)
Valium(diazepam
Ativan(lorazepam)
Librium(chlordiazepoxide)

Ativan and Valium are pretty much worthless unless you have a large and unlimited supply to them, and even if so, taking a lot of them just makes you feels like crap.

Librium does WONDERS on withdrawals if you are trying to get off of opiates or alcohol, although it gives you what SWIM and his detox regulars call the "Librium Waltz." This gives you unpleasant hotflashes in your face, and you walk around like a zombie, very confused/out of it (on the insanely high doses they give you in detox anyway). Do not use this for recreation, insomnia, or day to day anxiety.

SWIM can't tell you much about Halcion, seeing that he isn't sure how much he actually took and he lost 2 days of his memory. It was a pretty similar situation with the Rohypnol too. This WILL give you a pretty bad hangover, you won't remember a thing, and thank the DEA for actually doing something right by making these harder to get because of the date-rape incidents.

Now back to the topic...

Like almost everyone has been saying, Xanax kicks in fast and hard, and that is where you get the euphoria. However, the buzz goes away after a few hours, and if you are an addict like SWIM, or unless you take 10+mg, you will crave more and more like a crack fiend until you can get something else to get that buzz back. If you take higher doses, it will be somewhat similar to the Rohypnol and Halcion description, minus the longevity. On the other hand, this is probably the best benzo to take for insomnia considering the short half life which in turn will NOT give you a "hangover." Swim has also had some pretty intense lucid dreams after taking this before bedtime.

Klonopin is in some ways the exact opposite. It takes a little bit longer to kick in and hit the peak, but depending on the dosage, you could be feeling great well until the next day. SWIM wouldn't consider it a hangover, but a much better medication for day to day anxiety. You can also get Xanax-like effects on higher doses.



The bottom line...

If you are actually addicted to Xanax and/or Klonopin, a 1:1 dose ratio is perfect. For example, if you take 2mg of Xanax 3 times a day, take 6mg of Klonopin at once and you with have no withdrawal.

If you medically need anti-anxiety meds, I would suggest to switch to Klonopin so the tolerance fiasco with Xanax doesn't happen and so you can function like a normal human being. It is superior in so many ways. If you want to get high every now and then, there is still a way...

If you are in it to get that benzo buzz, I would still stick with Klonopin. Take your normal dose, and then add a little Xanax on top of it. The combo between the two is priceless. A little bit of each blows a lot of one or the other out of the water, just be careful with your dosage. Everyone's body chemistry/tolerance is different.



And be careful...

If you're reading this, I'm sure you're aware these medications are VERY dangerous. Tolerance levels can go up and down rapidly, so take it slow. When SWIM was doing a lot of opiates he would take loads of benzos all of the time when he got dopesick, and his tolerance was pretty high. He later ended up switching from heroin to buprenorphine and laid off of the benzos for a while to lower his tolerance.

SWIM decided he wanted to get a buzz going one day, so he ended up taking 16mg of his normal Subutex + 10mg Klonopin + ~3 hours later 4mg of Xanax and had a great time. Not too many days after that he ran out of Subutex, was sick so he didn't eat or sleep for 2 days, and ended up scoring 90mg of methadone and 6mg of Xanax(which is actually a small dose for him compared to a few years ago). This seems like less narcotics than the first binge, but he ended up with 3 tubes down his throat and a respirator breathing for him for 4 days.

So nothing is set in stone. Listen to your body, be careful, don't be stupid like me, and have a fun time.

swim thinks xanax is alot better, he took seven .5mg klons the other day and it wasnt nearly as nice as lets say 2.5mg of xanax

As a short acting benzo xanax have the effects reach their peak faster, which might me you feel them come on stronger, although klonopin and xanax have around the same potency per mg. Usually SWIM prefer klonopin although sometimes he likes xanax just because he almost never takes them so his tolerance isn't so high.
