Combinations - xanax (alprazolam) and propacet (acetominophen and propoxyphene): Safe to combine?

swim has 2 propacets (as far as he knows they are propoxy, or darvocets). he knows these are pretty weak but he has no tolerance right now. Swim also has a bunch of those pentagon shaped xanax xr pills (the weakest as far as he knows). Swim was wondering if it would be ok to take the 2 propacets and crush up a xanax or 2 tonight, or if it would be a dangerous combination (everything taken orally)? Swim also likes to smoke some bud as well but doesnt think that will be of any concern, he just doesnt want to do anything that could be a risk healthwise. any replies would be greatly appreciated, peace....

SWIM has mixed xanax with pain pills (like codeine,vicodin,darvs) and had very positive experiences. It's fun just be sure to start out with low doses.

It is noted in the PDR (Physicians Desk Reference -- medication bible for doctors, pharmacists) that there is a distinct interaction between alprazolam (xanax) and propoxyphene (darvocet). SWIM personally (on desperation of fear of withdrawl from opiates) found that a small amount of propoxyphene and a heady amount of alprazolam was enough to stave off withdrawl, even provide decent euphoria. SWIM does not recommend polypharmacy and wants you to MAKE SURE you know your DRUG, DOSE, AND TOLERANCE. To some people, that combo might be lethal!

propoxyphene isn't too good unless you are opiate naive or just have never used many heavier opiates. Supposedly the pain relief provided by propoxyphene, not sure which variiation or if both, were only about as effective for analgesia as aspirin. The only benefit in the study was the calming mildly narcotic effect of propoxyphene.
