So me and my pin pall SWIM were IMing each other back and forth and he got to telling me how his High school has a Resource officer. He told me that everything was fine until this "black box" appeared next to the officers office. SWIM continued to tell me how anyone in the student body could put a name in the box and soon there locker, car and the person, whose name is on the paper, would be searched for illegal substances. "What happens to the person who puts the name in the box" I asked. He said "They get 5 dollars if they come back to see him". I didn't get anymore information out of SWIM after this point because I became violently ill. Does this make anyone else sick!? Does anyone know if its happening in there local high school and how long its been going on? Is this really legal or is it one of those loop holes where turning child against child is "OK" if it has to do with drugs?

I for one am glad that I got out of high school before all this shit started up. This isn't helping anyone...only destroying kids life's for the sake of making pay roll....

I think your friend is exaggerating to you; as that's not legal. If this is happening, tell your friend to call an attorney and get rich off the school district.

Oh but he isn't. SWIM's friends have been arrested because of this ridiculous policy. I know it to be fact myself. Lets just say this school is very well within range of my eyes and ears.

Congrats to your friend, he just earned a couple hundred thousand dollars from the school district with the proper attorney. Get your local phone book and call the ones with the big ads first.

I think your right. It just so happens to be in a town that is about 90% anti-drug so I'm just thinking that they think no one will take it on. I might just have to head on down there and get some questions answered then go talk to my local attorney and see if maybe I got some money coming my way. If anyone has anymore information on this please feel free to comment or if you just wanna rant go for it.

if this truely happened, there is no question they are breaking the law and will be fined as well as have to settle civil cases on whomever they've done this too. Get the ACLU involved.

In swim location, they have what they call high school crime stopper, basically the same thing. Plus the school district has a contract with the local cops to run the K-9 unit through all the schools weekly.

This dosent suprise me, there was a thread a while back about how people in traffic school were being told they could receive money for helping to turn in a drug dealer.

You are correct sir. I looked further into it and that is what it is called. Also I have a lovely story here

We have, say...Jim and bob (good friends)

Last week at some point Jim was turned in ,via this box, to the office. He was searched and was later found to have weed on him. Now, by reasons unknown, bob was also brought into the office on the same day. Bob was told that he was now going to be searched. Bob replied "No, I want to speak with my parents". He was then told by the officer "Your not speaking to anyone" and proceeded to search him and his locker only to find nothing. Bob is a minor by the way. Both of them were.

It is a officer who does the search. I may be mistaken by the searching of the car. I've been asking around and it seems no cars were searched because of the box. I apologize. Since I don't go to this school, I'm trying my best to weed out over exaggerations from truth. Again my apologies...The only reason I assumed was because SWIM was telling me how he herd the officer asking around about he's car and who he hung around with.

I just want this box out of the school. Its destroying the quality of life inside and outside of the school. I can even see a change in my friends that come from that high school. Everyone thinks everyone is out of get each other, and I'm even starting to become scared of hanging out with some people, myself. I'm 19 and I would no longer receive a slap on the wrist if I was ever caught. One girl was even brought in and questioned about Who she hung out with, If she/they smoked marijuana, if it was at her house, if he parents smoked marijuana, if she drank, etc etc. She was also friend's with Jim....

pinky i think you are wrong about that being illegal, in the US anyway. anyone attending a school in the US is not subject to laws like you cant be searched, esp in your locker which is school property. my school used to do this on a regular basis. I believe you have the option of denying the search, but you have to withdraw from the school if you choose to not cooperate.

rideburton- the aclu has one case after case of school districts herassing students based on heresay. in fact one judge even noted that dramatic teenagers are most likely to 'turn in' another teenager based on ill feelings towards them rather than actual suspision.

next, he said that their locker, car, and person are searched. this it TOTAL bs. a person, even a minor, can't be searched without consent in simple heresay.... and what makes this story even more unbelievable is that their car is also search ... this requires consent of the owner of the car (not a minor) or a search warrent .... oh and by the way a school district can't do any of the searches at all (except the locker) only a police officer can with concent and/or warrent. ...

as for the lockers... yes a school can randomly search lockers ... but caselaw has dictated that this can only be done under 3 circunstances which are 1. chosen at random, 2. the school faculty has witnesses activity to make them have reason to beleive there may be something in the locker (not heresay from their ex gf of last week cause she's bitter) or 3. when the randomly bring the k9's through the k9 finds something in the locker.


cops can't start seaching people because somebody anonymously says they might have drugs, that is called heresay. a cop may question you on heresay and ask you to consent to a search, but if you don't consent you are fine ... they can't just search anybody and everybody ESPECIALLY based on anonymous heresay.

i agree with Pink on this one. There is no way that they can go through anything of yours with out proper reason, such as probable cause. This can be anything from a smell of drugs, seeing them, signs of drug use, ect and so on.

Again what pink said, i was thinking about all the students that would do it just to watch friends, or enemys get into shit, or if not to get them into trouble, to bust their balls. Hell i'd try to make a fucking game outa it. Have my friend report me, when i have nothing, have him get 5$, then do it with a few more people, use that money to buy goodies lol. That'd be a kick to their nuts.
