Paraphernalia - Some Newb Questions

This is a letter I found on the street, could someone respond to it for me?

"Hello,

I'm a semi-experienced newb but I have what may be a stupid question. I have a small glass pipe, with carb and it's serving me quite well, but I'm not sure I'm using the carb correctly. Please don't laugh at me yet.....

What I do is cover the carb while heating the bowl and start drawing in when the bowl catches, then release the carb when I think the pipe is full and take a big drag for my hit, is this correct?

Also, I live in the U.S. and was thinking of ordering some...equipment, another pipe maybe, a vaporizer and a grinder. My question on this is I believe the site I want to order from is UK based and I'm worried that my order will be confiscated or searched or something and I'll end up on some list somewhere!!! Is this a danger or do I need to chill out some? And while your at it, if anyone wanted to recommend a good site I'd greatly appreciate it.

Anyway, those are my questions, and I'll thank you in advance for any assistance."

Ok...as many people will warn you, Do check the rules. Such as we can't give you sites for anything outside of the sources forum. Also ,though you did not say anything incriminating, keep in mind anything you said was in a dream...remember? or your crazy friend SWIM did it ) No harm done

With that aside the answer to your questions is Yes. Which I'm sure there are ways to spice it up a bit but you got the basic function down. As for "the list" or getting in trouble for ordering a pipe. I think you have nothing to worry about. I've been ordering things off the internet for a while and I'm still here. Most of my stuff came from Canada which should be the same international deal. Some of it did get taken but the company was happy to reimburse me for what was lost. That was with salvia so I think you should have no problem with a completely legal pipe. So just chill out and enjoy ^_^

Well that is what SWIM does, I find it works alright, unless I am mistaken. I have been told that when you use a bubbler you are supposed to pump the carb

sounds like you're using it right. why would you order from overseas? with shipping you're looking to pay way too much. search for sites in the united states. when searching use words like waterpipe and tobacco pipes.

better yet go to a local head shop and you'll find better prices and quality. look around the closest hippy park in your area, perhaps where drum circles are held regularly and ask around for glass blowers. you'll find much better quality for 1/10th the price you're looking to pay from ordering overseas.

As far as vaporizers go, if you're going to order one, be careful. Most of them are ripoffs and could be easily made for a 20th of the price at your local hardware store.

The only vaporizers swim recomends spending money on are the Volcano and the Vapir2.

swim has made some awesome light bulb vaps before. stay away from white coated lightbulbs.

SWIM had enacted a concise plan that involved a modified (adjustable) soldering iron that w/ another long metal pipe (same size as the... protuding metal of the soldering iron) with plant in tip (not touching) while breathing in a plastic piping connected to the end of the plant-holder portion of it. slowly.

+ wonderful clear headedness. The hot air just gets sucked through the piping but by the time it reaches you it's barely warm air, hot enough though so it deplenishes the herb of it's moisture and essential oils.

When using the carb, you can use it however you want to in order to make the hit smoother. Phaze holds his finger over the carb intill he gets a proper amount of smoke and then he lets his finger off the carb to clear the pipe from smoke so it wont sit and go stale.

Phaze has a vapor brothers vaporiser. They are located in the united states, california to be exact. No links outside the sources forum but maybe a local head shop might have one, or you could find one on the net.

These vapes are the only ones phaze would use, he has heard bad reports of the vapir2.

It took Swim MONTHS of practicing smoking before he could use the carb properly, don't feel bad. Swim had a very hard time learning the right way to smoke marijuana. Same thing with a bong, was hard to use at first.

For the longest, his friend (who is an established pothead) would light the bowl and pass it to him, and sometimes do the carb for him too.

Swim recommends buying from a local headshop. Many US states have strict laws regarding things like bongs, even if for "tobacco". Make sure to check your local/state laws.

Plastic is bad for making anything smoking related, found out the hard way. Harsh, plastic melts easy, and can burn and transfer toxic chemicals into your lungs. Always try to use wood, metal, or glass.

Swim has a pretty shitty lightbulb vape but it works for what Swim needs it for. He cracked it open on a side and covers with tape (LOL) so he can get stuff in/out much easier.

Swim has no vape, so make sure to listen to people about them and what brands they recommend. Some flat out suck, and some are wonderful. Don't be stingy buying one either.

Grinders are really unneeded. Swim uses a coffee bean grinder. A few seconds for chunky bud, and a few more for finely ground bud for rolling some fine joints or blunts. Not as good in a pipe.

SWIY sd grinders arent needed? Hell, I feel like I wasted parts of my life w/o one!!

Get a grinder w/ seperate compartments for a kief screen (importante), you just break up and grind up + shake for loose kief. (thc crystals) and when enough is saved, hashishe can be made! After a while a custom "shaking method" gets created believe it or not which swim's friends and self battle over the best method!

All just for grinding up the herb in a grinder you get hash extra. Plus, it doesn't deter or lessen the effect of the MJ itself so you get the stone + more.

Swim was referring the old school manual grinders, he could never get much use out of them. Swim knows others swear by them, but Swim swears by his coffee bean grinder method.

SWIM saw his first "grinder" as a happy face magnetic one; those are useless for kief, but swim is big on it 'spose. SWIM would like to see if using the kief for cooking norml everyday things would work well... like dusting the top of a juicy mouth-watering steak...

SWims advice to "semi-Noobs" is to hold the carb until your lungs are halfway full. Over time you'll get a feel of how much you can handle.

Practice makes perfect.

For example, Swim has build up super tolerance lately. Smoking while lying almost completely on your back gives Swim, literally, 2x the high by weight. Its nuts.

He smoked a blunt of about 2grams last night with a friend, and was as high as the first few times he EVER smoked. Insane. Of course, He was in a big recliner, pretty far back.

The laying on the back while smoking thing makes a HUGE difference.

I have mentioned this before on other parts of the forum. It gives more surface area for smoke to be absorbed in the lungs. It's also harsher to smoke this way.
