Okay I have been wondering this for 2 day's now, i tried UTFSE but I really didn't know what to search for. Anyway's my question is does the resin (the black sticky shit in a old pipe) buildup in your lung's like it does in a pipe?
Please elaborate. |

I'm no expert, but it would be my guess that since the lining of your lungs has a lot of mucous to keep dust and the like from building up in there, it would serve the same function to keep resin from accumulating in the larynx. As for the lungs themselves.. I'm still no expert, but I would say it's safe to assume that your lungs themselves have some mechanism of keeping resin from gathering what doesn't get absorbed into your bloodstream, the same way they keep other stuff from doing the same.

Have you ever seen those anti-smoking ads on TV or on billboards? Where they compare a smokers lung to and non smokers lung. Yes tar and/or resin does build up in your lungs eventually and turns your lungs black. Im no expert either your lungs prolly do have some sort of defense system for this but i know it doesnt work that well because i have seen the pictures of the black lungs. If your owrried about things such as these look into a water bong, bubbler, or a vaporizer. These are much cleaner than a bowl.

Your lungs constantly clear themselves out, all the time. You know when u cough up that gross flem shit, sometimes it's yellow sometimes is god knows what color? Well that's comming sometimes from your lungs... There is this saying about newports:
"if your lungs didnt clear themselves out and you smoked a pack a day, the amount of fiberglass in your lungs could build a surfboard" Muirner |

The same test on cannabis smokers vs non smokers lungs dont show and significant difference. |

Tar isn't a cancer causing agent. But yeah, it does build up.. Possibly not quite as bad as it would with cigarettes, though. Then again, it depends very much on what kinds of things you use to smoke. If you mainly smoke out of bongs, chances are you'll have less resin in your lungs than someone who mainly smokes joints/blunts.
Then again, I'm no expert either.

I've been thinking more about this and realized that i have a friend who hits nothing but bongs ever and always uses a hoot to mask the smell. Recently this hoot was gutted so that new dryer sheets could be put in cuz it wasnt really gettin the job done anymore. Well the old dryer sheets were disgustingly black and covered in tar, and that is only what you breathe out, think about how much was in the air when it hit your lungs and you held it in for 7-10 seconds. And a J of weed is supposedly equal to 4 cigarettes in carcinogenics and tar, if i remember correctly. - But anyways the point of that whole story was that yes the resin does build up and make your lungs nasty. But the good news is your lungs do clean themselves out but not at a rate that can keep up with the damage thats being done so it only gets worse, with chronic smokers. Last i heard if you quit smoking all together in 7 years, no matter how bad they are, will be like new.

Yeah, it will build up, to a point, but giving that the *average* pot smoker smokes less material than the *average* cigarette smoker, it wouldn't be as bad as those pictures you see on cigarette ads.
Side note: If you use a water bong, I read somewhere that although cold water has the tendancy of making a smoother toke, THC is more soluable in cold water than it is in hot water, therefore you have to smoke more to get the goodies in your lungs. If you were to use hot water, less THC is dissolved in the water and you don't need as much, and it's nearly as smooth. I can't remember where I read that, though. Vaporizers are much better, as mentioned. You could make a cheap and easy one out of an old light bulb (clear glass). |

Just a quick comment on your water temp theory, It doesn't matter if the water is hot or cold thc is not water soluable, so use cold water to cool the smoke instead of using warm water that serves no purpose other than a filter. If thc was water soluable it would be alot easier to use water in thc extraction than fat or alcohol, just droppin some bud in some water would be alot easier than making cannibutter or waiting for the alcohol to extract the thc. |

Another comment or possibly theory on the water temp theory. Water does not dissolve THC but i would imagine that cooler water would cool the THC to a temperature in which it becomes a solid to a certain extent. Therefore using warmer water is viable, as less would form as solid before it hit your lungs. |

Theres a thread here somewhere about water temperature and effectiveness, and warm water is actually better for the purpose of getting SWIM high. I dont know about how it effects the resin situation.

Well the build up that your talking about is no where near as dramatic as what you see on the inside of the pipe. You see, a pipe is just a metal pipe. Your throat, larynx, bronchi, ect have defense mechanisms to prevent that kind of build up. Mucus builds up in the throat, which can help keep that area clear. When you smoke alot, there tends to be more mucus. The lungs themselves are very moist, so solid resin wouldn't start buiding up to that degree. Alot of stuff also passes through to the blood stream.
The lungs are still negatively affected by smoke of any kind. Color changes and cell mutations can be noted in smokers, and I'm sure there is build up of all kinds of foreign matter. Use a vaporizer, or eat your weed if this worries you. |

I'm thinking of switching to a vaporizer any way, because it won't wast my righteous smoke.

swim just cleaned out his friends bong yesterday (swim and friends use it daily, maybe 1/8 a day) swim is a master cleaner lol, he got all the resin out and was left with a giant res ball maybe the size of a marble lol, Swim then proceded to put it in the bong he just cleaned out and smoke the entire thing (very very very stoned after that), then swim thought yuck thats all in my lungs... Swim prefers not to think about it

Swim would think so he has a freind that only smokes cannabis and had his lung collapse (not from cannabis) and while at the hospital they found an large amount of tar in his lung while trying to repair it.

Re: Resin buildup?
To those saying THC isn't water-soluble, you've been slightly misled. True, THC is lipophilic, it is very soluble in fats and oils. And it is hydrophobic, not very soluble in water. The key word is 'very'. Nothing is truly 100% non-water-soluble, THC is just negligibly soluble in water. Fatmanstan is indeed correct, cold water does absorb more thc than hot water. It just isn't a large difference.
