Internship & drug testing

Hey everyone, i'm looking at the possibility of doing an internship sometime in the near future. What i'm wondering is, when applying for one, do i go through the usual practices of getting hired? Such as a drug screen? Any help would be great

Depends on the company usually and what kind of position it is. I found in the past any position that i applied for where you will have access to peoples personnal information(financial, social insurance numbers) they at least do a criminal background check. Drug tests are usually reserved for people who have actually access to money. I know casinos screen, banks probably.
On the blue collar end of the spectrum criminal background checks dont usually happen, in my experience anyway. However positions that require you to use or be around heavy machinery usually drug screen because they dont want messed up swims losing limbs and the like.

i would be interested in doing a computer type of internship, like a networking one you know... Just if that helps anyone at all... but thanks for your input it helps to settle me a little

I didn't have to do a drug test when I got an IT job, even if said job only lasted two months before getting fired for non-drug reasons twice. Hope that helps.

Just know that you can pass a drug test no matter what you've done. That powdered urine stuff works GREAT, and detox drinks you can get for like 25 bucks now IIRC

Guys in the IT field are almost NEVER drug tested. Even Microsoft doesn't drug test any of their programmers
