umm, i dont think your supposed to eat it. I dont know much about opium but im pretty sure you cant eat it. smoke it.

You can eat it. It's not as effective as smoking it, but it will work.

My research indicates that poppies aren't worth the time it takes to grow them.



They require 1 sq foot (30 cm) for 5 months with a potential yeild of 100 mg.



MJ gives higher yeilds.

Maybe that's why i've never seen opium.

^^^^^very true. They aren't really worth it unless you have a LARGE area in which to grow them.It's common practiceto just spread the seeds in various wooded or backroad areas and harvest what makes it. It is definitly not worth the risk to have 3 square feet of poppies growing in your closet under a light for 5 months, only to yield at most a half gram. JMHO.

growing them in your garden is more a hobby. you wil have enough for maybe 10 teas if you have quite a few. you should try guerilla farming. ive seen some very successful plantations. and large plantations..man

yeah I think Tea is the most common for people to make because opium takes to much time and effort to make yourself and hard to buy (at least in the US). Most people think it's a waste anyway and just make heroin out of it anyway to make money.

all you need is about 3 or 4 decent size pods and with the right method you can get the best high which will last 12 - 18 hours. Trust me!

ShadyMilkman, your pods are P. somniferum, and are fine to make into tea and use the seeds to grow It's true that growing poppies, unless you have a big isolated
chunk of land, is more of a 1-person head-stash kind of thing, but if
you are careful with how you plant the flowers and possibly intermix
them with other kinds of poppies or other plants, they will be less
noticable and you can harvest the latex in relative secrecy.

The reason you never see opium is 1) no one in the US really knows that you can
grow poppies in almost any geographic area, they think that they only
grow in Asia or something, and 2) anywhere that poppies are illicitly
grown, the opium is purified into crude morphine base, and then reacted
usually with acetic anhydride to change it into heroin. Heroin is
much much more profitable and marketable than opium, and the pay-off
factor in growing and then smuggling large amounts of opium is just
not present for the big growers.

Thus, opium remains more of either a
traditional delicacy to be occasionally used on certain holidays or
during particular festivals for people of various cultures (Laotian,
Cambodian, Thai, Persian, Chinese, Balinese, Indian, and various Slavic
groups come to mind), or a rare treat
for the random poppy grower or entheophile.

There is, however, TONS of fake opium such as "red rock" going
around all the time in circles of cannabis smokers and dealers, it
seems.

red rock? isnt that just inscense ? Dont they actually sell the extract on internet sites as inscense. I dont know how someone could not know the difference. In the US. for some reason it is very hard to find any kind of opium at least on the mid/eastern coast, everyone around here is strictly into pot, cocaine and alcohol, that's pretty much it as far as average drug circles go.


That's why if you are into such a things like P. somniferum's you either have to grow it yourself or buy dried pods and make some sort of concoction.

It may seems obvious to you that "Red Rock" is just Dragon's Blood
incense, but for kids who want desperately to experience the legendary
effects of opium, and unscrupulous dealers that are ready to sell them
the myth, well you can see why fake opium would start to show up.
Plus, if one has never seen opium and doesn't know what it looks like,
it would be easy to imagine that it would smell perfumey or something
like Dragon's Blood or Dhoop incense.

Also, Inkmanr6, I can't get to the link of your poppy pics that
you posted so I can't verify for myself, but both P. orientale and P.
rhoeas have red-petaled varieties, and they both can appear very
similar to P. somniferum to the untrained eye. Neither P.
orientale nor P. rhoeas produce any narcotic alkaloids, but they do
both yield a gummy latex substance that looks and smells almost exactly
like opium when the seedpods are scored.

Check the lafes. somniferums have characteristic leafes. This way you can at least kick out rhoeas. Still there will be some non. som. that have similar leafes. compare 8erowid, P.org-gallery, or just do a pic search on google)

I think this "guerilla" farming may be getting practised where I live (Southern UK). There are definate voids of land where such procedures could be (and have been) successfully implemented by others. My main priority is to get them growing in my own garden. Only then can I think about expanding my exploits.

I have a plant biology 'key' book that you can key out plants to the genus and species, but i can't find your pics. only somebody's family photos (your family?)

Dhoop incense needs to be tested. it quacks almost like a duck. ive seen REAL opium. and dhoop too. similar indeed. but yes some differences. yet it almost seems like dhoop is to opium what hemp is to ganjah. not quite the same all the way down to the structures, but similar. at any rate. swim smoked dhoop. honestly, truly, no joke, gets them a wonderful europoria. seriously. not super strong. not super long. but intense just the same. very very dreamy and mellow. others concur as well.

Heres what my cat suggests you do. Don't even bother planting/messing around in your neighbor's yard. Most if not all the poppys people plant in their gardens contain virtually nothing. The growers of the seeds intended it to be that way so everyone doesn't have a happy patch growing in their back yard. Dude, my cat tells me you wana go to ebay and search up "poppy pods mammoths". Buy about 30 of them for starters. My cat thinks that TheTransPlants is the best seller (biggest and most potent pods your ever gona see in your life, anyway.) sorry swims changing the thread a bit,,but if u smoked it, did u use a vapour pipe or a proper opium pipe,,if u use a bong or normal pot smoking pipe, u won't get hardly any of the op's, as u frazz it,,,,,,,,,,try using something like a meth pipe,,,peace
