hydromel (Mead)
well I here to tell you about a true elixir: MEAD !!!
I'm very surprised ths is the very first post about this mythologic drink here. Mead, (also known as "Hydromel" or "Chouchen" in the brittany region in France) is a 13-15% alcohol honey liquor....taste just like drinking alcoholised honey juice, truly delicious ! Mead is also called "gods nectar" or "ambrosia", ancient mythologies tell us that hydromel was the drink of the gods (do some google search to learn more about the mythology of hydromel) Anyway it's really worth trying (as long as u like honey), probably my very favourite drink...after the green fairy of course. hydromel is a nice honey wine indeed, very sweet. In France the legend has it that it gives the feeling of falling backwards when you drink a little too much !
- on "slightly different" alcohols, I again invite people to taste green chartreuse, a very sweet herbal liquor made by Chartreux monks, something special about it, related to absinthe in a way. but the taste is way sweet, so be prepared. b |

well green chartreuse is abit too "grass/herbs/spices tasting" to my opinion so I can't drink much (I like it in small quantities)
Anyway, if you say there's some slight "narcotic/psychedelic" feeling associated to it, reminding you of some kind of mellow absinth, then maybe I'm gonna give it a try. |

One way of getting the taste of chartreuse without the insane sweetness is to add a small amount to a glass of sparkling wine: Much nicer than it sounds!
