It might just be me, but I don't think diphenhydramine enhances anything, including music. Swim has only tried the stuff once and he did not enjoy it at all.

i don't think "good and fine" is an accurate description of the effects of diphenhydramine, well maybe the beginning drunk part, before the insanity. if i could concentrate enough to put on music while on diphenhydramine, if i ever did that shit again, id put on something incredibly up beat and happy. but yeah i dont think it would sound better than it does normally, but maybe it would keep you from freaking out and shit.

I have had both "interesting" and bad experiences with diphenhydramine. It really all depends on dosage. There is a very small territory in which effects are desireable; inbetween too low of a dose and too high of a dose. Note that I said "interesting" experience, and not "good." DPH is not a drug that I particularly like, because it not something you can use consistently and while knowing everything that will happen to you. The effects it produces are really some "mental imagery" (not genuine hallucinations) and maybe even some mild MILD euphoria. Further, it is incredibly hard to stay awake with dosage sufficient for the "good" effects. Mixing stimulants with diphenhydramine is not a particularly good idea; it would probably only lead to anxiety, restlessness, and "freaking out." Much like low doses of acid.

A little thesis:

Diphenhydramine can be fun because of its delerient properties. At the same time, it can be hell because of its delerient properties. You could find yourself stairing at a wall going seriously insane for hours on end, because it also can induce insomnia if abused. So the music relation? Music is all about emotion, it triggers feeling. If you can trigger a happy feeling while in a delerious state, that will make the trip a thousand times better. However, if you accidently trigger a feeling of contempt or hate for the music, that'll be hell.

In all seriousness, if you are going to do this, don't use rap or rock. Use something like.. the sounds of the rainforest, or some peaceful music.

The best advice I can give, however, is that when it comes to Diphenhydramine... JUST DON'T DO IT.

eh

You can sum up diphenhydramine like this: Uncomfortably confused.

there's a time for diphenhydramine, however that time is very very rare.

You really don't get much of a buzz...it's more of an uncomfortable dryed out feeling.
Diphenhydramine is not fun. Even if you were having fun, you'd forget you were having fun and wonder what you were just thinking about.

At higher doses you by all means hullucinate, but you can't tell the difference between realtiy, dreams, thoughts, or really anything. So it can be interesting/exciting/new...whatever, but it's just not worth it.

Anything that you know well and that makes you smile, something you haven't listened to for a while is good aswell, SWIM is currently on 200mg of diphenhydramine and is listening to Waterloo To Anywhere by the Dirty Pretty Things and let him tell you, it sounds fucking GORGEOUS.

Re: Diphenhydramine + Music = Enjoyable?

SWIM likes soothing, comforting sounds. She tend to become a bit paranoid on Diphenhydramine so something soothing..especially Incubus_ Aqueous Transmission( reminds her of lovely experiences witb Kratom) sounds wonderful to her. Nothing edgey..it makes her freak.

Re: Diphenhydramine + Music = Enjoyable?

swim does indeed find diphenhydramine and music to be an enjoyable experience. swim definitely concurs that the best music is pretty mellow and smooth... incubus is a good choice. mellow alternative rock is ideal. pick something familiar, and it will sound totally different. when swim had this experience, she was on about 150 mg, which is alot but not an enormous amount. she enjoyed the music about 30-45 minutes after injestion when the high started to settle in. as time progressed, though, swim became too tired to enjoy the music and passed out. she imagines, though she has never tried it, that if swiy were on much more than that amount, music probably would not be enjoyable at all because swiy would be way too out of it to even pay attention to the song. diphenhydramine can be fun for a short time after injestion if swim don't take too much, but mostly it just causes swim to pass out and fall asleep, since swim has never taken so much to experience hallucinations and the like that others have written about.

SWIM once did around 400-500mgs and put on "hunky dory" by David Bowie, and blinked, and he was 8 tracks in, seriously, he just lost about 30 minutes, just like that.

hmmm... fun? yeah that's how swim figured it would be. that doesn't really sound like something swim would want to do to get high, swim would just do that to get to sleep. did swiy enjoy it at all? swim was pretty exhausted for about three days after taking 150mg... did swiy have this prolonges exhaustion too?

SWIM didn't enjoy it or not enjoy it, it's like 30 minutes never happened, he can only assume he stared into space for that period of time, perfectly motionless. But SWIM was enjoying himself before that happened, and has had many other enjoyable experiences with Diphenhydramine.

Re: Diphenhydramine + Music = Enjoyable?

SWIM has noticed that diphenhydramine seriously boosts his musical creativity. SWIM has been using diphen hydramine for about 4-5 months off and on, and only recently picked up a guitar and recorded an hour long jam while on about 200mg of diphenhydramine.

SWIM finds that his own vocals are much better, and finds it much easier to produce a vocal vibrato effect. Also, SWIM's lyric writing improves quite noticably while under the influence of diphenhydramine. Perhaps this is because of the confused state it induces, as SWIM is much more of an ordered, logical thinker while sober.

SWIM just thought he'd mention it as no one else has. SWIM highly recommends it.

Also, if SWIY aren't enjoying music while on diphenhydramine, try turning the volume lower, SWIM has noticed that the more subtle or quiet a sound is, the stronger SWIM's reaction to it

Re: Diphenhydramine + Music = Enjoyable?

When SWIM was in Psychiatrics, he felt a nice calmness at the end of the day after taking his 50 miggs of diphenhydramine. He could almost compare the level of relaxation to a 10mg diazepam pill. Of course when SWIM looked forward to this calmness the next night, it was nothing but drowzeeness. So the night after that he asked for his two PRNs(chlorpromazine and lorazepam). That night, he took his 50mg Benadryl, 100mg Thorazine, and 2mg Ativan. Within about 30 minutes, SWIM felt like he had just smoked a blunt... and his eyes were red! Again, that was a one time deal also. But back to the thread topic... SWIM found diphenhydramine enjoyable for one night, then it was just boring drowsiness.

Music euphoria effects?

My lab monkey wrote this as a question, any answers?

"Just wondering, at what dose does music start getting really good sounding on Diphenhydramine? On my first trip I took 250mgs and music sounded extremely good when I listened to it at the end of the day(T+7-9 hours after dosage?) Any time I would take around 250-400mgs I'd listen to music and it would just sound awesome after a day of being extremely tired, thinking weird things, and hearing odd things. Music I've listened to on this chemical sounds like its the first time ever hearing it. At what dose, for around a 54kg body, would music start sounding great? I don't want to go over a dose that would cause cardiac arrythmias. Anyone have experiences with low doses + making music sound much better, thank you."

Would be much appreciated if my monkey was answered with a low-dose experience with music.(100-250mgs) thank you.

Re: Music euphoria effects?

SWIM can say that she has had some low dose experience, around 150mgs for her, when music started to sound... different. Not particularly euphoric, or "in your head" like DXM is, but different. It took on an edgy, mechanical quality, and she noticed that she often heard different parts of the music at once, rather than the "whole sound", if that makes any sense. She could pick out say... the vocal line and concentrate on just that, and completely ignore the rest of it all. It wasn't "good sounding" per se, but definitely psychedelic for SWIM. Diphenhydramine tends to get SWIM a little more ansy/paranoid anyways, so this might account for that.

It tends to vary when diphenhydramine makes music more euphoric but even at a low dose it is sure to make it a little different.

SWIM never has ever had any good soundin music on DPH. In fact he finds music is rather dull and less appealing. Is he the only one who thinks it adds disinterest to things like music?

By the way Female, bad ass avatar.

Swim can attest to that. At least to where music isn't the focus, because she's either too damn paranoid, or too out of it.

And thanks a lot! Thought it added to the username. Heheh.

Well for what it's worth, my take is that around 200mg for an average male , you're in the right area (which kind of follows richgirlblah at 150). Higher and it's just nasty, you just don't know what's going on; lower and it's just the same as sober. There's actually more of an opiate-style warmth to it according to people who aren't me at this level when listening, especially live and it does overall provide a different, not necessarily 'better' experience. richgirlblah and akewstick were pretty good at describing what works; I'd also add stuff like Medicine, Orb, Cocteau Twins, Mogwai you know...hard, fast stuff you seem to lose track of while much quieter, purer ambient music seems to get washed out by the rush of thoughts through the head. An unexpected side-effect of watching bands live (for serious anoraks!) on DPH is the phenomenon of set-list scrambling. Couple of years ago, this guy I know went to the Reading Festival to watch Pearl Jam, a band he'd always wanted to see live...got a bit wasted on dph and although he had a great time, he remebers all the songs but the order is wrong. Just shows what an unpredictable drug this thing is and should ideally be avoided imo

really the music does not sound any different for SWIM.. i dont think it would do much to anyone anyway. one you cant really concentrate on nearly anything on this stuff, and the memory that is basically gone would not even remember what you are listening to
