Alcohol Amnesia/Blackout

Hello I am a 26 year old male I have a girlfriend of eight years that I live with (she isn’t ready for marriage and I am, another problem for another forum) we have had regular use of alcohol in our lives such as going out with friends and socializing in various settings. I know I have a few social anxiety problems that have surfaced over the years of adulthood and I'm wondering if I have a new one now. You see I really don’t like to drink anymore I am going to school to become an IT and trying to make something of myself there are many times now I decline to go drinking with my buddies in order to study and stay out of my old habits. But here is the thing my girlfriend loves to socialize and drink and believe me they always go "hand in hand" with her, every time we go out with our friends I always end uppassing out and I mean the "black out" kind. Things will start off like they used to laughing, telling stories, just having funthen about an hour or two into the night after only a few mixed drinks nowhere near what my tolerance was I start to get sleepy before you know it I am in the car sleeping, sometimes I will just pass out on the floor of our friends house, occasionally when I am passed out I will sit up and mutter something off the wall then return to my slumber I don’t ever remember saying anything nor when or how I fell asleep This typically only happens with hard liquor it seems that beer doesn’t have the same effect. I have narrowed it down but it may be something else.

A. since I don’t go out much my tolerance has completely left me

B. an anxiety disorder that occurs when I am in a social situation that I don’t necessarily want to be in yet feels the need to satisfy my partner

C. a sign of ten years of binge drinking that has turned to an alcoholic syndrome

D. liver shutting down from the hard liquor consumed (maybe Ihad a bad liver to begin with sometimesfor a fewdays following the night out I have a tingly sensation almost a tickling in my stomach directly left of my bellybutton)

Please feel free to let me know what you think, I know the easy answer is to not drink but I would like to know what it could be that is making me have the tolerance of a little girl

Stick to beer, and do nothing else. What you can also do is take an ephedra or sida cordifolia extract. Then you will stay up and running. Note that you can drink MUCH more, without getting to drunk, but not without the hangover suiting that amount ofalcohol.

How it happens; probably answer C, D or E. E = other cause.

One can of beer is equal to one shot of liquor, the difference is the volume of beer as compared to a shot of liquor. it takes longer to drink the beer (usually) than it does to down a shot of liquor. If you could drink the beer in the same amount of time as the shot, you would have the same effect. If you like the taste of beer, try the non alcholic. Black outs are caused from the effects of alcohol on the brain chemistry. once your blood lever reaches a toxic level it shuts your brain down. this is whene people die from alcohol intake.

Mhmm, what about the effect of hop in beer? Hop effects the neurotransmitter GABA in another way as alcohol does. GABA is a major factor in sleep and relaxation.

The Combined "Alcohol Amnesia/Blackout" Thread

Hey everybody, I'm an 18 year old and started like drinking 2 months ago. I was at this party and wanted to ask a question. I had 3 beers, 1 and a half bottles of something which had 7% alcohol and around 2cm of some other drink which had 27% alcohol. Note; I didnt eat too much before drinking. My effects were abit of sleepiness, i had poor balance when walking, ABIT of diziness, I had slow reaction when i had pushed over this bottle. That was about it. Also, is THIS normal for the amount that i drank, I remember most of the events that had occured during the night, well almost everything (if not all). Is forgetting things that happened also normal when your drunk? Thank you.

that sounds pretty normal to me. Im guessing ur a female of a smalelr stature. that sounds exaclty like u just got drunk, but didnt over do it, since u didnt vomit. congradulations, the first time i got drunk i puked my brains out. if ur drink had been spiked most likely u would have lost conciousness and u would not remember anything. minor memory loss is a result of the alcohol so no worries about that. sounds like u had a good first drinking experience. just be responsible and safe and ull have many more to come.

ohh sorry LOL. i tend to forget that peoples first times are different than mine. i have a naturally high tolerance to alcohol for w/e reason but not everyone does. but in that case, im like 99.9% sure ur drink was not spiked, usually it is spiked with rohypol or ghb for the purpose of date rape. and usually it is girls who are targeted. and yeah you will be fine, and as long as u keep ur drinking to the weekends u shouldnt have any serious problems.

Can't hardly drink anymore without memory loss

Last night SWIM had about 5 beers on a moderately full stomach over a 2 hours period. SWIM only got a very moderate buzz, but has no memory of the things he did leading up to going to sleep. This has been par for the course recently, with even moderate amounts of alcohol that get SWIM nowhere near drunk leading to memory loss/blackouts. It didn't use to be this way, SWIM would drink a 12+ beers, get quite drunk but still be able to remember everythat that happened the next day. What would cause someone to black out this way after such moderate amounts of alcohol, and not even being drunk?

Re: Can't hardly drink anymore without memory loss

Swim has noticed for him that blacking out tends to cluster. That is to say if he drinks heavily one night and blacks out, he will tend to black out if drinks again soon thereafter even if it was less than his normal threshold of blacking out. Also being tired when drinking tends to lead to blacking out at a much lower threshold, try getting a good night of sleep beforehand.

Re: Can't hardly drink anymore without memory loss

swim has noticed the say thing in himself. he used to be able to get quite wasted and still remember the events of the night right up to going to bed. these days, even though his tolerance is higher, he blacks out much sooner. often times he will take up not remembering anything past the first few drinks, long before he even got drunk.
