Kratom extracts and pure leaf?

A friend of my reciently found out about kratom and has become a bit of an enthusiest for the herb. He has done quite a bit of research on the topic of preperation and extracts. He has two questions, first question would be does lemon juice really help in the tea method, and secondly why does the extract feel more speedy and less opiated than the leaf, he has expirmented with dosage ranges from 3g to 9g with nothing but intensification of the speedy nature.
