Opinions - Difference Between 2mg Yellow Xanax (Alprazolam) Or White

I've heard many things. Some people say that the yellow xanax bars are alot stronger than the white ones. Other people say there is no difference except that the yellow ones have caffiene in them.
I called a pharmacist and he said that he thinks the only difference is the drug maker just makes it a different color.

I was wondering if anyone knew the exact reason and could find a reliable source on the internet to prove it?

They are made by different companies. The white one is brand name Xanax (made by Pharmacia & Upjohn) and the yellow one is generic alprazolam (made by Purepac Pharmaceutical).

They both contain 2mg of alprazolam. The yellow one does not have caffeine in it. They are essentially the same thing.

For most drugs the copy right expires after 17 years. Other companies usually then begin producing a generic version and can sell it for cheaper.

Comparisons of the blood plasma levels between brand name and generic might have been conducted at one point between Purepac Pharmaceutical under the supervision of the FDA.

The FDA mandates that the blood plasma levels of a generic must be within 20% of the brand name. For most drugs there is no noticable difference and I have never heard a difference between generic/brand name for Xanax, other than price.

Caffieine and benzos are nice. Try a mix of ephedrine, caffeine, a benzo and a few drinks. Great for partys. Feels a wee bit like xtc.

Years ago I came across the yellow bars and they were high quality. I've also had generic brands that don't compair to Upjohn , et. geneva and some others that I can't remember the brands ,there are so many now.

Greenstone is owned by upjohn and they make generic bars. They are much less potent in swim opinion. Upjohn must make sure you get exactly 80% of their name brand alprazolam levels.

The only difference SWIM has noticed is that the yellow ones are always legit. The yellow Alprazolam bars are nicknamed BUS BARS, and because of this people think they are more potent. SWIM has come across a few white "XANAX" bars that seem to be nothing more than powder pressed in the shape of a bar...

In fact caffeine is contraindicated for all of the conditions (anxiety, etc.) for which the use of alprazolam is indicated, so far as I know. This would be sort of like adding chili extract to Tums.

yellow with an R that looks like a jesus fish = purepac
white with double G and smooth back = geneva
white with single G and slants = Greenstone
white and round with an X cross section = mylan

all are 2 mg. all are alprazolam.

caffiene isnt added to any of these. mixing caffiene with alprazolam may or may not be contradictive as they work on different receptors. benzodiazapines of course work on GABA receptors, whereas the methylxanthine caffiene acts as an adenosine antagonist (primarily on adenosine receptors in the brain).

You seem to misunderstand the word contraindicated. Contraindication is when an individual should not take a certain drug because of a certain condition they have.

If one has anxiety, then one should not take caffeine or other stimulants, because such drugs exacerbate the anxiety problem which the patient is trying to control with the benzodiazepine. It has nothing to do with method of action of one drug vs. another.

What you described falls under the category of "drug interactions." On that subject, I can see no reason why combining alprazolam with caffeine would inherently be physically dangerous. However, the use of caffeine is contraindicated for those suffering from anxiety, because stimulants make anxiety worse.

lmao. I meant contradictive in the sense of working against each other. in other words taking say LSD with a handful of SSRIs. not contraindicted, but certainly contradictive if one is seeking the hallucinogenic effect.

SSRI's would be contraindicated for those hoping to "trip." I wonder if prolonged SSRI use might cause a deficiency in the talents of some people such as Shamans, yogi, etc. who seem to be very in tune with the psychedelic state?

Though interestingly, I've seen a decent amount of anecdotal evidence suggesting that many people taking SSRI's report little effect on their ability to "trip." That particular interaction seems to be perhaps not as simple as one, myself included, would initially think.

They do make a benzo with caffine in it,Tranzene.Caffine makes almost all meds work faster.SWIM would drink 8-10 cups of coffee at a bookshop,while bumming magazines,and eat 2-3 mg of xanax while doing it.was great deal till the cut off the all you could drink coffee.

Slap my fellow Mighigander for me. Upjohn/pharmacia(former Mich. co.) was bought by Pfizer.Pfizer now produces the branded xanax in some other Pfizer plant as of about 6 years ago.So there really is no truly upjohn manufactured original xanax.

There is a differance in generics.companies use different ingrediants and prossesses,especially in the filler components.Which effect absorbtion speed and efficiency.Theres even how the molecules are balanced and weighted effect the product.xanax is pretty forgiving in that aspect,so overall the quality gap from best to worst aint to bad.Valiums are a whole nother story for another thread.

It's Tranxene a/k/a chlorazepate, and I can find no reference to its being compounded with caffeine.

Quite the contrary, one reference I found says that "Caffeine may decrease the effectiveness of chlorazepate (Tranxene)."

I will state one more time that caffeine and other CNS stimulants are contraindicated for all conditions for which benzodiazepines are prescribed. You WILL NOT find caffeine compounded with benzodiazepines, period. Medical references state that caffeine is an antagonist of the effects of benzodiazepines, and vice versa. This means they counteract each other's effects.

Radio, I'm not the sharpest pup on the block I guess,somehow that got stuck in my head that tranxene was compounded with caffine,it's not.All references I looked up had caffine on the list of things that could affect benzos.I must be thinking of some new fast acting otc headache med or something,that they charge a ton for,and all it is,is acetominophrin and a lil caffine,or something like that.

Whats your take on the generic versions of xanax and other common benzo's.

That very well could be - caffeine is an excellent medicine for mild migraine headaches, and is often combined with APAP or ibuprofen.

No problem about the error - I find it's always best to check one's facts before posting them - in this case, I see no harm, but in other cases, misinformation can lead to others hurting themselves. Dude, I swear I have always told people they are stupid for preferring yellow bars to the white ones... but recently Joe has noticed that the yellow ones DO seem more potent, but maybe Joe just tells himself that and then feels it more. Ya know what I mean?

SWIM took two yellow bars one night and got drunk on vodka and didn't feel a damn thing. He greatly prefers white ones.

In swim's experience over the years with xanax (bars and footballs) he found that as a general rule of thumb the brand name xanax is always a wee bit better than the many different generics he has taken. Swim has'nt seen a brand name yellow bar so he thinks that all of those are generics. Always look to see if the pill has XANAX on the back to know if its brand name or generic.

Not true cheetahwhisker - the best brand-name XANAX (made by Upjohn/Pharmacia) is imprinted 'UPJOHN 90' (1mg or '29', '55' and '94' for 0,25, 0,5 and 2mg respectively). And they are a whole lot better than the ones marked 'XANAX'. Also, SWIM finds that Gador's ALPLAX and Galenika's KSALOL are much better than the Upjohn/Pharmacia product.

As for the question about colour, I personally haven't tried a yellow bar, but I know that there is a generic made by purepac which is yellow. I would imagine that the colour is the only difference. If it's supposed to contain 2mg alprazolam, then that's what it should contain, regardless of whether it's yellow, green, blue, or whatever.

SWIM knew a rabbit that would jump across the border for shopping, a beer, and fish tacos. Every once-n-while, the rabbit would ask for Tafil in a very polite way. Sometimes the rabbit was told to sit & wait. After a short while, the rabbit got a bottle or two of the Tafil (2mg x 30). The rabbit really liked these because they were white; however, the rabbit had eaten the yellow ones before also. Both did the same job - the difference is in make-up. The white were much harder... In certain situations, the rabbit loves to jump high really quick. SWIM thinks a softer, less bound, bar would be better for quick uptake!
