Talking Feds' Weed Not Stony Enough For High-level Research

FEDS' WEED NOT STONY ENOUGH FOR HIGH-LEVEL RESEARCH
WASHINGTON - Put this in your pipe and smoke it: A University of Massachusetts professor says the medical marijuana grown by the federal government isn't very good. He wants a permit to grow his own pot, saying it will be better for research.
Lyle Craker, a horticulturist who heads the school's medicinal plant program, is challenging the feds' monopoly on legal pot for research. A lawsuit by Craker claims government weed lacks the potency medical researchers need. "The government's marijuana just isn't strong enough," said Richard Doblin, a Craker supporter who heads the Massachusetts-based Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies.
A hearing at the Drug Enforcement Administration is under way this week. Craker alleges there isn't enough pot for scientists across the country to work with. The DEA contends permitting other growers would lead to greater illegal use of the drug and that international treaties limit the United States to one pot production facility. A University of Mississippi lab is the only federally licensed marijuana-growing facility. DEA attorneys said it provides plenty of good pot for researchers.
"Whatever material is needed could be provided under (the) process that is already in place," said Professor Mahmoud ElSohly, who runs the cultivation program, including a 1,200-square-foot "growing room" and a stockpile of about a metric ton. "We have quite a bit of inventory," ElSohly said

The government is known for growing inferior marijuana. The Canadian governments medical marijuana was also criticized for being to weak. They should have some sort of standard range of THC for any weed to be used for research.

That article is pretty funny. The feds are all bein assholes like, "yeah we grow them enough pot and if its not good enough for those hippy bastards they can sit on it." Then the hippy professors are like, "fuck the police i'm gonna grow weed and run tests on it." Then the feds are like, "You better not, you better not" said Richard Doblin, a Craker supporter

i also support crackers.

Anyone else hear reports that government grown weed is very dirty? I read an article some time ago that described that the Canadian government weed was full of contaminents, chemicals and a bunch of other junk.

Yup it figures. Back in the late 1970's a lot of pot was showing up that was contaminated by what appeared to be paraquat - a highly toxic herbicide the US government had been spraying pot fields with in Mexico from the air. At least that was their story. But pot from all over the map was showing up with this chemical on it. What this indicated was that somewhere along the line, someone was poisoning the marijuana and then selling it on the streets of the US of A. Naturally the suspicion fell on the government.

If they couldn't prove that marijuana was bad for your health, why not treat it with something that will make it bad for your health to support your allegations? Paraquat, if volatized and inhaled, would cause severe lung damage and quite likely cancer. When this data was brought before the city council of Cambridge, Massachusetts by yours truly, backed up by a nobel-prize winner from Harvard University and his organic chemist wife, the city council voted unanamously to test the marijuana in the city for contaminents. People would be allowed to bring in samples to the Cambridge City Hospital for testing - without fear of being arrested. Suddenly the Federal government sprang into action. Not to support the testing project to safeguard the health and lives of the citizens of the US of A, but to threaten to arrest the entire city council and any hospital personel who engaged in the testing. Though we never got the pot tested officially, our suspicions about who was poisoning the pot were promptly confirmed.

It does not surprise me in the least that government-grown grass would be crap.

Hey nago, do you recall the drug czar who proposed spraying all confinscated marijuana with poisons and reselling it? He brought it up but quickly dropped the idea when people with morals told him it might not be such a great idea.
