In what appears to be another move that highlights the British governments complete confusion about drugs the home secretary (Charles Clarke) has apperently been trying to set in stone the exact amount of heroin, cocaine, crack, E, amphet and weed that you can claim to be solely for personal use (therefore avoiding the heavy sentencing that "intent to supply" brings).

According to a draft drawn up with Nottinghamshire police the amounts will be

Heroin coke and crack: 7g or 10x0.1g (wrapped)

Ecstacy: 10 pills

Amphet: 10g or 10x1g

Cannabis resin: 4 ozs or 10 individual pieces (no weight mentioned)
Cannabis leaf: half a kilo or 20 2"x2" bags (again no weight mentioned).

If this was introduced as law I think it would cause more confusion than clarity but on the other hand it would be nice to know that no-one would be arrested for dealing just for carrying a few wraps on them.

It doesnt take a genius to realise also that anyone who deals will take full advantage of this law (should it become law). E.G swim could carry half a kilo on swim in a big bag and just weigh it up as and when swim needs.

Don't get too excited, As far As I know, this is just the starting point for the governments consultation process. It's not official policy or law yet.
