Ativan makes me feel like shit the next day. Nothing beats a goold old 2 MG Xanax bar. Good Xanax knocks me out usually though.

SWIM prefers Xanax. She doesn't use benzos for fun. She used them for a while for GAD, and now keeps them around for occasional use. Xanax provides the best anxiety relief for SWIM out of the benzos she's tried (Klonopin, Valium, Ativan) with the least undesirable side effects. In fact, when SWIM tapered off of her regular dosing, she found that she had to do it with Xanax, because none of the others she tried (with the longer half-lives typically recommended for tapering) worked properly for her anxiety.

SWIM likes that Xanax leaves her clear-headed, so she can use it for performance anxiety (she's a professional symphonic musician) without affecting perfomance quality, and that it's fast-acting, making it a great choice for helping to sleep after psychedelic or stimulant use.

SWIM often uses clonazepam (generic Klonopin) to help sleep after using a stimulant (coke, xtc, etc). It does the trick. Can't think of any instances SWIM has used it for shit's and giggles though.

SWIM's choice is Klonopin(clonazepam). For SWIM the answer as to why is all too obvious, as you'll soon see. Please read.

It is not an issue of recreation and/or enjoyment. It is a matter of daily functioning. SWIM has a script - and has had a continually renewed script for 11 years.

SWIM is unfortunately saddled with Generalized Anxiety Disorder(GAD) with infrequent, episodic panic attacks. SWIM only uses the term 'episodic' here as to distinguish between SWIM's normal level of background anxiety, and the much more intense panic attacks.

SWIM knows that all panic attacks are episodic

Since SWIM has explained this much, SWIM may as well go all cathartic on you poor readers...

SWIM, along with his P-doc, has tried other benzos(Valium or diazepam)(Xanax or alprazolm), as well as many other types of meds in order to bring SWIM's anxiety issues under control.

These trials have included SSRIs*(Zoloft or sertraline), Desyrel(trazodone) among 'oldish' anti-depressants, to newer agents that effect multiple neurotransmitters such as Effexor(venlaxafine) and Remeron(mirtazepine), that are widely acknowledged to effect the pathways of both serotonin and norepinephrine in the brain. In high doses, Effexor(venlaxafine) is also shown to have some effect on dopamine.

(SWIM should add the following: While trazodone is an SSRI, it also acts on 5-HT2 receptor sites, so the mode of action may have yet to be truly fleshed out)

SWIM's curiousity about most things lead him to discuss at great length the modes of actions of his trial meds with his P-doc. Hence the boring and verbose post. Sorry.

Other novel anti-anxiety(anxiolytic) agents were also been given trials - Buspar(buspirone) being the most recognizable.

As you've no doubt guessed by now, none of these agents, alone or in combinations alleviated SWIM's GAD.....EGAD!

SWIM does enjoy reminiscing about the old days when his benzos gave him an entirely tranquil feeling not unlike being immersed in a warm mental bath.

However, those days are far in the past. *sigh*

Now, Klonopin(clonazepam) serves yeoman's duty in keeping SWIMs sometimes overwhelming anxiety at bay. Boring yes, but vital.

That, my now-entirely-bored-co-members is why Klonopin(clonazepam) is SWIM's favorite benzo.

*Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor

Temezepam (Restoril) is great. Feels like being in a dream but you're awake. Might even have to pinch yourself a time or two to really make sure that you're not really sleeping but are indeed awake and concious of your surroundings...

Well, I said it in another thread but SWIM loved Halcion (triazolam) the few times he tried it. He felt there was a definite euphoria that he didn't find in most of the others. Xanax probably coming in a close 2nd.

SWIM has tried oxazepam and temazepam at least once each but can't remember the experience very well... heh, go figure!

(as said before the withdrawals from benzo's is HORRIBLE, use with extreme caution people)

Triazolam is very tempting because of its potency and very low half-life. But be very carefull with triazolam, specially above 1mg doses, because SWIM has gone thru things like going to the street naked and dancing on top of cars because of triazolam. Any benzo can get you really fuc*ed up but triazolam is the one that tends to get the most. Be carefull.

SWIM finds triazolam not relaxing but a really mind fuc*er!

Oxazepam is the most popular amongs benzo ABusers in here my country. SWIM likes more clonazepam, midazolam, bromazepam, diazepam, temazepam, oxazepam.

swims favorite would be xanax on its own. however, when he mixes xanax(as little as .25mg) with opiates he is unable to stay awake and ends up falling asleep for hours on end.

Re: Favorite benzo POLL: Please Post Your Reasons Why

For SWIM it's definately Temazepam. SWIM has tried different benzodiazepines with a few glasses of alcohol, which made him do stupid things,or make him to sedated and sleepy, so he'll rather enjoy benzo's on their own.
Midazolam might be a close second, but it's hard to dose because of it's potency, though nice when dosed right.
Diazepam is too sedating for SWIM, and Oxazepam doesn't cause any euphoria for SWIM either, only Temazepam and Midazolam do.
Lormetazepam is also nice, and gives SWIM a relaxt feeling, but no euphoria either, and neither does Lorazepam.
SWIM still wants to do flunitrazepam, triazolam and flurazepam so his mind might still change, but for the moment it's 30mg of Temazepam.

Re: Favorite benzo POLL: Please Post Your Reasons Why

SWIdr has been prescribed: Diazepam, Lorazepam, Clonazepam and Alprazolam over the past couple of years for GAD (general anxiety disorder). He has tried other non-prescribed benzos too, but he has found that a couple 1mg pills of clonazepam would settle his anxiety for pretty much the whole day. Recreationally speaking tho, he would have to say Valium (diazepam) and Xanax (alprazolam) would tie for first. They both can stomp out any panic attack, and when taken in the right doses, and combinations with opiates and alcohol (NOTE: Do not combine Benzodiepines with any other drugs unless well eduated and experienced on the subject!) they can be a great source for superb euphoria!

Re: Favorite benzo POLL: Please Post Your Reasons Why

Temazepam is now Swims fav for a body high and making him very happy but for social anxiety klonopin is by far the best for Swim. Swim is getting a script for klonopin soon and it just keeps him cool for social events.

If he had to pick between the 2 he would rather have klonopin hands down. Swim is the type of guy when he walks into a bar/pub/club and even if all his friends are there he'll go straight to buy a strong drink just so he can feel that he can socialize. With klonopin he's happy and can talk more confident with girls and larger groups of people.

Swim's not so keen on valium and larozepam as he has been very violent when mixed with alcohol. Xanax just makes Swim sleepy, so best to save that for bed time after a night out.

swim enjoys diazepam. swim has had both aprazolam and diazepam crystals with no binding agents and finds the aprazolam to give a strange headache like sensation while the diazepam is far easy to measure an accurate dose, very smooth to insufflate and makes swim very sociable around strangers without apprearing sloppy drunk.

Re: Favorite benzo POLL: Please Post Your Reasons Why

For swim, he would definately go with moggies.. Nitrazepam. Defo.
they kick in after only a few minutes if sucked, they give a good feeling of euphoria/initial buzz, they do last a good amount of time (swim actually enjoys the "hangover" the next waking day!).

Apparently according to some sources they are a weak benzo, but in swim's opinion (while this may/may not be true) if this is the case it is one of their better qualities as swim is less likely to get into trouble!

they have a good sedative property - causing severe motor response delay/slurred speech; but with less of the aggression seen by other benzo's in high doses...

swim likes lorazapam compared to klonopin, dizapam and zannies because its so much more sedating than klono and valium yet lacks the respritory depression he noticed with zanex.but hands dow the best downer is zolpidem tartrate(ambien).the first high on amben is the best and no matter how long you abstain theres nothing like the first ever amben trip so dont waste it take a good 15-20 mg your first time.people have survived doses upwards of 300mg but anything above 30mg is insanely hard to remember.swiy will just be sitting there like ...shit what did i have for breakfast!!??its such a social high you feel connected to the person next to you.not sure why this isnt a more poular date rape drug, not just because of amnesia but even 10mg has profound panty-removing effects.

For SWIM hands down clonazepam. Relaxing and helpful on occassion for anxiety. SWIM dislikes alprazolam- too short acting, but mainly because SWIM can feel it leaving their body- and it then induces a headache.

Unfortunately, SWIJatelka is asking a gourmet question to a person who thinks that a peanut butter sandwich is a 4-star experience. In other words, SWIM uses benzos predominately to deal with her most pressing issue, the one that overrides all others: sleep. Because of this, SWIM does not consider herself a connoisseur of benzos because she is trying to escape terra firma and has no idea how it actually feels to be awake or attempting to function. SWIM does have a script for Ativan and has used small amounts during the day to alleviate stress.

SWIM is a serious insomniac and has been my many years. She has taken Lunesta for over 2 years now, but is has become less effective and rather than let go (because Ambien and Rozerzem don't work well at all) SWIM has started self-medicating, augmenting her Lunesta with Benedryl, Ativan and now has substituted 2mg of Phenazepam for everything except the Lunesta. It is doing the job fairly well, as 2mg knocks SWIM back pretty good.
