High blood pressure from meth

After a good 20 years of using meth Swim has developed high blood pressure even though he no longer uses meth and itís the only drug he has even used and has never smoked or drank with no family history of High blood pressure Swim assumes the meth is the cause.
Swim is not overweight and runs 2 miles a day but still cant get it too normal. Tried numerous meds. Beta blockers Diureticís ect. Tests all come out normal on kindneys ect.
Skip was wondering if anyone knows anyone named Swim who has had this problem and if so what drugs they are taking and or methods to control there blood pressure.
Average pressure is 165 over 105 normal is 120 over 90

Re: High blood pressure from meth

it is high but far from alarming - it is important to take in account hight & weight, which are parameters SWIY did not provide us with.

The way one eats is a very important factor as well and that's maybe where SWIY can do some work: try less salt and less fat, less meat, more fruit and vegetables - no need to turn into a rabbit, just try to adjust and still feel like you had a good meal.

Re: High blood pressure from meth

Ask the/a doctor. Patient priveledges come into play. Check the law in you particular state/county to be sure, as SWIM is no expert, but would be doing that if she were in SWIMs shoes. Simply ask if any drugs could or would cause the increase. If yes, then be smart about what you say, get the doc to do all the talking. One that is perceptive might pick up on that and be cool, who knows.
Search the internet if too paranoid. SWIM wouldn't have had her doc for 15 years now, if she couldn't be honest with him. Well, partially honest. He is fully aware that she smokes the green stuff daily, hell, he even admitted he used to as well!
They can't help you if you aren't giving them all the pieces to the puzzle.
Make sense?

Re: High blood pressure from meth

OP does no longer use, so he can go to any doctor and tell his story, nothing will happen.
Going to the doc' is a good idea, but SWIM supposes the OP has done that already.
If meds don't seem to work it is all probably related to general life hygiene, not to drug use.

SWIM can recommend lots of fish oil/cod liver oil; garlic, ideally fresh; Mukta Vati which is an ayurvedic dietary supplement that can be ordered online (SWIM has found very effective and quite quickly too, though she only takes it sporadically due to high price and side effects including stuffed nose and tiredness); jiagolan tea; Q enzyme 10; eating lots of potassium including bananas; magnesium citrate. B vitamins, including folic acid; vitamin C.

SWIM doesn't always take all these things all the time but has noted over the years that they're all quite effective. The Dash Diet is also very good. Gentle aerobic exercise too.

Perhaps SWIY's doctor could tweak the meds SWIY is on; at 165/105, swim would suggest medications at that level, whereas someone who is borderline like (just under 130/90) can currently get away without being on anything. Swim would prefer to get hers consistently below 120/80. She notes that it drops when she religiously takes all her supplements but it's too many pills to swallow, LOL

ACE-inhibitors and ARBs are excellent for blood pressure if SWIY can tolerate the side effects (which I couldn't, though most can). They caused SWIM to develop a dry cough and blocked sinuses, and raised potassium levels though 80% are OK on them. Calcium Channel Blockers are another possibility.

Good luck though; there's always hope.

Re: High blood pressure from meth

Thanks for the replies. Swim is aware of all the foods he should and should not eat. Which he follows as well as avoiding salt and salty food, fatty meats ect
Takes horse pills everyday with fish oil and others.
He is 5-10 lbs 160 pounds. ( skip runs 10k marathons all the time )
From what he said he has read.. long term use of meth will cause high blood pressure.
With 3 brothers and 1 sister all with low blood pressure. (Never used) at least more than a few times.
He is sure the drug use is the culprit. I am sure there is a combination of BP meds that will work for him if it takes 2 years to find because there are so many types of BP drugs.
Swim was hopping there was someone else who had this problem and could suggest drugs that will work. Thinking they would have the same type of problem that would require the same medication.
As far as telling swims doctor about the 20 years of drug use that’s a problem! she is his cousin. But regardless I don’t think it would matter if the doctor knew he used for years. As long as he is not using now.
I can’t see her looking in her med books for blood pressure meds for ex tweakers.
But maybe.
Funny thing is if he uses meth.. his hart rate goes up but his pressure goes normal. Haha.
Its just when he goes clean does the BP gets high.
Funny thing too is after 20 years of use everyday.(he is now 46) on average more than a half a teener a day. swim still has all his perfect teeth minus a few cavities he got before use. And checks out in great shape in all test but BP.
Kidneys, liver, lipid levels all test very good. But when swim watches TV about meth they claim is destroys your body in a few years..all swims old friends that never used all look 10 years older than him. They are so full of shit about what they say it does too you.

Re: High blood pressure from meth

we can agree on that last statement, if all that is said on TV and in front of the UN & WHO were true, SWIM and SWIM's friends would be dead 68 times already.
As for the BP, and this is an indication, not an advice (as SWIM would never advise anyone to take a particular drug), Cannabis is known to lower blood pressure - maybe it is something SWIY could look into if it is available as a medication in SWIYr part of the world.

Re: High blood pressure from meth

That prolly would work if swim didn’t have to test for his job. No prescription wont work for his job either. One must be clean of everything.
But one the other subject.
In swims opinion,, he thinks what ages drug users from what he has seen is when either 1 1. uppers are mixed with downers for example someone does a bunch of speed then takes a narcotic or pain pill to sleep. Does lots of damage to the body “you cant mix”.
2.And of course slamming dope seems to really put on the years. Don’t know why but nothing ages a person more from what swim has seen.

Re: High blood pressure from meth

Well, in this aspect, one has to consider that taking meth depletes reserves of several neurotransmitters as well as other bodily fluids and that the body needs to be fed and to rest to build up reserves again - meth is not really the type of drug SWIM can either eat or sleep on. In SWIM's opinion the lifestyle gets one to age more rapidly, not the necessarily the drug itself, although its use leads to said lifestyle.
