Try doing it again and the stare at a white wall for a few seconds, you can see the green dot going around on the wall for a few rotations.

For any of you who missed the clockwise/counterclockwise spinning ballerina thing, have a look at this and try to see whether she is spinning in one direction or the other. Apparently the direction you see her spinning in depends on which side of your brain is dominant.

Very interesting! She is spinning counterclockwise of course With some concentration and imagination, I managed to make her spin clockwise.

The mechanism of most optical illusions is that the brain either 'interprets' what it sees (which is extremely important to transform the raw information from our senses into spatial information we can make use of) or fills in what is missing (which is also very important because our senses are very limited).

Shit, well that's freaked me out. She started off spinning clockwise and then started alternating between clockwise and anti-clockwise and I'm not even trying to change the direction.....my birthday....must be time for a drink....

I see her clockwise at first. Then with some difficulties moving from left to right and back and then I get her anticlockwise. It is easier to switch back to clockwise somehow.

We have to relay on our senses. Therefore we also fill in the gaps. The same thing we do with our memory.
