Depression and anxiety normal after molly use?

SWIM's pet zebra uses MDMA, which she calls molly. She's used it three times so far, and after every time she gets severe anxiety that lasts for up to three days after rolling. Is this normal? Is SWIM's zebra a complete weirdo?

After the first time WARRIOR did molly, he had depression starting 4 days after the roll, right when he went on vacation. It lasted at random times the next week, he had random moments of sadness, even crying twice, since he was isolated from his friends during vacation. This is normal, zebra is not a weirdo, it has to do with the serotonin being very low, that past 3 other times that WARRIOR has rolled since then he has learned to deal with the side effects a lot better, and the depression is not nearly as bad, usually just happens on "suicide tuesday", it's more of a drained feeling.

Re: Depression and anxiety normal after molly use?

This is not uncommon, and if swiy's zebra looks through the forum or searches they will see this has been discussed quite a bit.

There is some anecdotal evidence from MDMA research that those that suffer from depression/anxiety following MDMA use tend to be those with a history, or family history, of depression or anxiety.

Swim is not big on MDMA but from what he understands a lot of people take 5-HTP AFTER the trip to help replenish the body and mind's seratonin supply.

Or milk and turkey will work too because the body processes it like this:

Tryptophan -> (5-HTP) 5-HydroxyTryptophan -> (5-HT) 5-HydroxyTryptamine AKA Seratonin.

Good suggestion

Re: Depression and anxiety normal after molly use?

MDMA is highly neurotoxic, and depletes monoamines, such as serotonin and dopamine, causing a severe rebound depression, and, sometimes, anxiety, after the drug wears off.

However far up you went, however good you felt, at the height of the MDMA experience (I myself loathe the slut-powder substance), is how far you'll fall in the two to three days after. That's a major reason why people don't use MDMA all the time - the hangover/comedown is more severe than any other drug there is.

Oh, and did I mention, it's neurotoxic, and that long-lasting depression and anxiety after the fact is a sign of neurotoxicity? Why would one continue using a drug, when, for what they consider four hours of "sexual euphoria" (that's the largest absolute contradiction I can think of; a "flying anvil" makes more sense) or "social euphoria," they know they will experience 72 or more hours of crushing depression and/or anxiety?

And, did I mention, neurotoxicity? When one uses MDMA frequently, even for a short period of time, there are semi-permanent to permanent neurotoxic effects and cognitive deficits noted. This is demonstrated all throughout the literature, but you don't need to read the literature to realize it. Just notice how many times you can't remember a word you were trying to, and remember, the MDMA-using community came up with the phrase "e-tarded," not just because they were lacking sexual activities to engage in at the moment, or shitty music to dance to while trying to attract someone to perform a sexual activity with, or dancing while performing a voyeuristic sexual activity, the MDMA community came up with the phrase "e-tarded," because necessity is the mother of invention: they needed a way to concisely communicate the retardation that heavy "E" use causes. Thus, the phrase "e-tarded" - retarded because of "E" use - was born, not in the literature, but amongst communities of people who use the infernal shit.

"And G-d said that kindergarteners, acid casualties, and e-tards were created equal, and they were, and he saw that it was good."

Re: Depression and anxiety normal after molly use?

^^ Actually, the neuro-toxic and cognitive defects of MDMA are hotly debated. By and large the so called "research" involved rats and doses far, far beyond what any human would take.

There is little if any concrete evidence of it being particularly toxic, and in fact, those that have been involved with it the longest seem to feel both the research and anecdotal evidence shows it to be remarkably safe. The longest study of cognitive damage in non-poly drug using humans will be published later this year, or early next, and the turtles aardvark was privy to some of the conclusions of the study, which found remarkably few long term cognitive problems.

And as to the claim of the long lasting anxiety and depression being a regular part of the drugs side effects- many users report no such problems, and again, some anecdotal evidence seems to suggest it may be a matter of those users predisposed to such conditions. The turtles aardvark used pure MDMA quite heavily for a number of years, and never reported any such problems, and in the circle of friends such effects, while not unheard of, were certainly in the minority.

Re: Depression and anxiety normal after molly use?

Depression and anxiety are not a symptom of the nuerotoxicity. They are a symptom of nuerotransmitter depletion.

There was a news article about a team of european researchers who evaluated the relative safety of drugs and MDMA was considered safer than marjiuana. It's buried around here somewhere I'll see if I can dig it up.
