Besides all the bullshit on this page I have one major problem with it. DEA stands for drug enforcement administration. This basically means that the purpose of the organization is to enforce the drug laws of the United States. How on Earth does this allow them to spend money doing preventative lobbying against legalization? That has nothing to do with their job. They enforce laws, and if the laws change, then they stop. They don't have any right, expertise, or jurisdiction to make claims of this nature. |

As far as I understand, money is generated from them making busts. If there are fewer busts, there are fewer paychecks.

Yes, but if drugs are legalized they don't need to raise money for paychecks from busts. There will be no paychecks, as their services will no longer be needed. I recognize we can thus see their motivation for the actions, but this in no way makes them acceptable or legal. Enforcement and legislative lobbying do not mix in the US. It is flat out unconstitutional. Separation of powers anyone? |

The DEA has about as much checks and balances as the patriot act, its hard to even get mad when you hear about stuff like that, its just so expected. |

I hate it when they make a statement without backing it up with proper facts.
<center>"However, the prescription drug Marinol—a legal and safe version of medical marijuana which isolates the active ingredient of THC—has been studied and approved by the Food & Drug Administration as safe medicine. The difference is that you have to get a prescription for Marinol from a licensed physician"</center> Kind of tripping over their own feet there. So THC is safe to use, yet it is the specific chemical that is made illegal? Legalisation didn't work in Alaska, and more people started smoking weed. They failed to document what the consequenses of this was. People commit murders because they are violent criminals, not because they're high. Heroin addiction in holland has tripled because Heroin is also legal, and there is no proper education about drugs. The statement "most drug users get treatement, not jailtime" goes hand in hand with "drug control spending is is a minor portion of the US budget, compared to the social problems of drug addiction". By drug addiction, they mean mainly pot smokers (wich are most commonly caught by the police because they're so many). The "drug addicts" get treatement because they have no choice (i mean all drug users, because the majority of all drug users dont want treatement). Treatement is better than jail. So the social problems of drug addicion is caused because harmless drug users are forced into treatement by the government, wich accounts for a "social expense". Way to create your own problems. I hate to argue stated facts (because im often wrong ), but this really annoyed me. Just thinking that people like me are going to suffer because other people belive statements like that.

I thought the part right after that was even worse. It was something to the effect of: "and you don't smoke it or find it on the street corner." Such obvious mind leading bs... *<!-- var SymRealOnLoad; var SymReal; Sym() { window.open = SymWinOpen; if(SymReal != null) SymReal(); } SymOnLoad() { if(SymRealOnLoad != null) SymRealOnLoad(); window.open = SymRealWinOpen; SymReal = window.; window. = Sym; } SymRealOnLoad = window.onload; window.onload = SymOnLoad; //--> |
