Moldy Philosopher's Stones?
A quick question for the seasoned veterans of the board...
I have some philosopher's stones upstairs in a baggie which I attempted to dry out 8 days ago using a hair-dryer after leaving them under a radiator for the night. The stones shrank from 11g to about 6g but now there appears to be this whitish mould around them. Do you think they're mouldy and unsafe to eat? Could they still be consumed in tea without the risk of puking my guts out? Any advice would be helpful... |

My mate did exactly the same thing very recently(grow kit shrooms, dried out with fan) and the shrooms went mouldy. It was probably better not to take the risk, but I'm a bit gutted. Now the onlychance of me tripping againis i) go to Holland(no money and no timeat the moment )ii) find a source here in the UK(not likely) or iii) try one of these microdots my friend's gettingholdof, whichmay not be a good idea as a first LSD experience.Edited by: ramjet

When fresh philosopher's stones get warm and dark, especially in a airtight packadge, CO2 levels build and they start growing again. Thus forming white mold. This is totally unharmful. They normally contain two-third of water, so your truffles have already dried in somewhat, before you got them. When dry, they are as hard as rocks and you can easily break your teeth on them. Soak them in tea for 15 min. before consuming them. Either you have not dried them properly or your dose of truffles was a bit large. 5 grams dried or 15 grams fresh normally is a full dose. Anyway, you can store dried truffles for a very long time, if you do that properly. (airtight, dark, dry, cold) Over the years, they will decrease in potency.
