SWIM's 1st and 2nd attempts at Pod Tea

SWIM recently purchased a kg of pods advertised as "Irregular shaped Giant strain", which were very cheap.

SWIM has some experience of Codeine & Tramadol, but still has a low tolerance. These pod tea making attempts were spaced ~8 days apart, with no opiate use between. Some 4-MMC and Kratom had been used between attempts.

SWIM's 1st attempt:

SWIM washed, de-seeded and coarsely chopped some pods, leaving him with 7g of pod material. SWIM put a mug's worth of water into a small saucepan along with the pod material, 2 big squeezes from a lemon juice bottle and a confectionery thermometer, heating and stirring until the temperature reached 65C. SWIM then turned the hob down to it's lowest setting, which maintained the temperature at 60-65C and left it for 25 minutes, stirring occasionally. SWIM then poured the contents of the pan through doubled up kitchen roll in a funnel, squeezed out the pod material as best he could, added 3 large teaspoons of honey and drank the results (discarding the pod material). The Pod Tea was very light amber in colour and no bitterness could be tasted over the lemon and honey.

SWIM had eaten a good size meal ~5 hours prior to ingesting the tea.

~40 minutes after ingestion, SWIM experienced a slight warmth through his whole body and mild sedation. No euphoria was experienced. Sensations got slightly stronger over the course of an hour, when SWIM chose to go to bed. SWIM slept well without disturbance and felt normal in the morning.


SWIM's 2nd attempt:

SWIM prepared the tea as described above, except this time 15g of pod material was used, 1.5 cups of water and the material was prepared in a blender instead of being chopped. The Pod Tea was a an amber colour and tasted quite bitter, although not unpalatable.

SWIM had eaten a good size meal ~5 hours prior to ingesting the tea. It should also be noted that SWIM had less sleep than usual the previous night and was already feeling tired.

~ 30 minutes after ingestion, SWIM experienced light sedation and warmth. These sensations grew over the next 2 hours along with itchiness (until SWIM took a Piriton) and eventually a light euphoria. Towards the 2.5 hour mark the sedation was very intense, often leaving SWIM unsteady while moving around. SWIM was unable to keep his eyes open at some points, and had several microsleeps while attempting to text chat on facebook. SWIM decided to sleep at this point. Sleep was disturbed, with SWIM waking several times and having strange dreams. SWIM was woken by his alarm clock in the morning and still felt quite sedated, also slightly nauseous. The sedation dropped off gradually over the course of the day, with SWIM returning to what he believes to be baseline at ~15 hours after ingestion.

Although SWIM enjoyed his 2nd experience, he had hoped for more euphoria and less sedation. Is this down to just the mix of alkaloids in the pods, or can it be influenced by the preparation?

my pet gila monster florian thinks it's either an issue of unfortunate alkaloid distribution (pods are infamous for having a wildly variable potency) or, and hopefully this isn't it, just a swimmer who's biologically not fully receptive to poppies.

the fact that he's gotten pretty heavily sedated without reaching the level of euphoria he's wanted is what's telling him this. SWIM would STRONGLY encourage SWIyou not to push the dose up -- it's not worth risking an OD, trust my pet. It could easily be a weak crop -- SWIM's gotten them more than once.

Anyway, be safe, let us know how it goes too

SWIY's second experience was much closer to what a poppy experience should be of course. One of SWIMs opinion's is that SWIY's pods aren't incredibly good. SWIY says they got them pretty cheap, maybe they're just not good quality. But because SWIY did get something off of them, a few adjustments to their preparations might yield more desirable results.

One might try to steeping the pods longer. SWIY has done everything correct, but I feel that allowing about 2 hours for pods to steep extracts much more of the alkaloids. SWIM knows (from the stickied thread) that this is how long pods steep in order to start the process of making Cooked Flaked Opium which requires all the alkaloids have a chance to be extracted. So that is something to try.

Another thing to try would be ingesting the plant material with the tea. One could prepare it in the same fashion except for straining out the material. Drink it with the tea. Or just put the material in some juice and chug. SWIM gets much more out of his pods when doing this and since SWIY has a blender he should be able to grind the pods into a consumable consistency. Do this at a lower dosage than your second attempt though as it very well may hit SWIY much harder. 10 grams is a safe dose in SWIM's opinion and he seconds SWIinterluanr's opinion on not increasing the dose past 15 grams for the moment.

If one were inclined they could also try some of the various potentiation methods for opiates. SWIM will drink about 12 oz. of white grapefruit juice an hour before taking his medicine and it seems to help, but his opinion is highly unscientific in this case.

SWIM had another good go at it over the weekend, had a total of 47g in 3 brews between friday afternoon and saturday night. SWIM noticed a lot less sedation this time and a bit more euphoria. Although SWIM's last dose was ~6pm saturday, he had a nice comftable background buzz going on until late into sunday evening. SWIM thinks that on his previous attempts he took his tea too late in the day, and the sedation multiplied with his natural tiredness (SWIM rarely gets more than 5-6 hours sleep during the week) just knocked him out.

Now while SWIM is very happy with this outcome, he did feel a bit rough earlier this afternoon. SWIM experienced mild abdominal pains, headache, sweating, sudden tiredness and an inability to concentrate, lasting ~2hrs. 1000mg of paracetamol and a pint of cola sorted it out for the most part. Does this sound like symptoms of a very mild WD?

SWIM has the same symptoms when coming off the tea, except intensifying over a couple of hours to some true discomfort. Sweating, chills, headache, abdominal cramps, insomnia, mood swings, diarrhea, etc. If swiy are experiencing WD symptoms swiy might want to think about spacing doses further apart. Believe swim withdrawal symptoms can create a horrid circle of redosing just to keep those symptoms at bay.

There was no desire to re-dose at that point, same as SWIM has no desire to re-dose on stims during a stim comedown. SWIM will be careful in the future now that he's felt that. It's not something he'd wish to experience in any greater detail. SWIM will definitely limiting his tea drinking to the odd weekend from here on in.

SWIM finds pods to be significantly less euphoric than pills like hydrocodone/oxycodone, but it gets the job done. It's a much heavier, sedating feeling but can definitely eff a person up!
