SWEDEN: New substances under control(31/10/2005)
Following a decision of the Swedish Government, five substances have been added to the control measures provided by the Act on Prohibition of Certain Goods Dangerous to Health:
4-Acetoxy-N,N-diethyltryptamine (4-AcO-DET), <?:NAMESPACE PREFIX = O />
4-Hydroxy-N,N-diethyltryptamine (4-HO-DET),
4-Acetoxy-N,N-methylisopropyltryptamine (4-AcO-MIPT),
4-Hydroxy-N,N-methylisopropyltryptamine (4-HO-MIPT) and
3,4-Methylenedioxymethcathinone (Methylone)
The decision was based on a proposal from the National Institute of Public Health (NIPH) and the regulation enters into force on 1 November 2005.
This follows the decision to control the two substances GBL and 1,4-butandiole on 1 September 2005. A change in the legal framework regarding the Act on the Prohibition of Certain Goods Dangerous to Health (SFS 1999:42) was also made to facilitate legitimate use of the two industrial chemicals. In order to use substances regulated by the Act for industrial or scientific purposes, permission from the Medical Product Agency is needed; following the change, the agency is now able to waive this rule for these two substances by issuing regulations on the subject. In 2006 the responsibility for issuing permits will most likely be transferred to the NIPH.
