Methadone and Codeine

Hello everyone. Swim is a recreational (but heavy) opiate user. Swim usually takes hydrocodone and oxycodone but when he can find Methadone, this is what he prefers. I know a lot of you are saying, "what? He prefers Methadone?" Yes. He does. For one thing, it lasts much longer, and for another, he likes that buzz that methadone brings that is slightly different from other opiates. Anyway he has been taking 20-25 mg's for the last few days and all he had left is half of a five milligram tablet and he knows that this isn't going to do much. Swim also has 4 or 5 tylenol 3's and he is wondering if he takes the codeine along with the 5 mg's of methadone, will it make it any better? Swim has heard many people say that methadone is supposed to block the effects of other opiates to some degree but he has never noticed this very much. He usually doesn't get much of a good feeling at all from ANY amount of codeine but will it enhance that little bit of methadone? If anyone else has taken codeine along with methadone and has had a positive experience, please post it. Any personal experiences with this combo, swim would be interested to hear about. Thanks.

Re: Methadone and Codeine

The methadone will block the effects of the codiene unless the codiene is taken in huge doses. BTW, preferring methadone doesn't sound weird to SWIM, he loves his smack and opiates but nothing compares to a 12 hour nod from one legal (for him) dose.

Re: Methadone and Codeine

Thanks, man. Swim doesn't have a huge dose of codeine, nor would he take a huge dose of it as it seems to make him itch like crazy when he does. Not the usual pleasant opiate itch, but a ridiculously horrendous allergic reaction-type itch. (No other opiates do this to him, only codeine.. ??) So, he thinks it will probably be best to just save the few tylenol 3's for a day when he has nothing else and needs them. The 5 milligrams of methadone he took with a few beers, seems to work ok anyway, at least for the night. No nod or anything but a half-assed pleasant feeling anyway. Of course, most of this is probably from the 20 mg's he ingested the night before. Swim loves that about methadone. The duration kicks ass. Especially after eating only percocet and lortabs exclusively for the last month.

Re: Methadone and Codeine

Methadone is an agonist like codeine so it may be supposed that the effects may be stronger with this combo than methadone only.
SWIY is sure that if you do the combo codeine+buprenorphine you would suffer from withdrawal symptoms because bupe is an antagonist and codeine is an agonist. Bupe provokes withdrawal symptoms when a agonist opiate is taken.

Post Quality Evaluations:
Buprenorphine is a partial agonist not an antagonist.
