Anybody try Entada rheedii yet?

Here is some info:

The seeds of this large woody climber are frequently washed up on the beaches of the east coast of southern Africa which is why they are sometimes called Sea Beans. It is a large creeper growing in most forests in central Mozambique and naturally occurs from near Durban northwards throughout tropical Africa and into India, Asia and Australia.

The extraordinarily large seeds are carried or worn on necklaces and pendants as lucky charms, but tobacco made from this seed has been used for ages to help induce vivid dreaming.

The large bean like seeds are carried and worn on necklaces and pendants as lucky charms. Tobacco made from the seed has been reported to cause vivid dreaming. The seeds have various medicinal uses, including topical applications in an ointment for the treatment of jaundice.

I found this on other forums:

the other friend and this one friend came to an agreement to try and over come placebo effects, that is, there are a few things niether had tried so neither can identify by taste or smell. then, the agreement is that these are "in play" i.e., subject to spontaneous use without warning or notification in a given period of just smoking small amounts of n. rustica as indeed, many of the species are mixed in this fashion and smoked according to the literature. then, if the person feels something this is sort of letting the experience come to you more than you looking for the experience. it has its flaws, but the amanita talk over there sort of nailed down some concerns overall. perhaps a more effective double bind could be used, of course, rustica is active to a degree, but there are distinct differences.

I did dream very vividly, and at one point remember thinking, during the dream, that things were a little different, but I don't know how much of this to ascribe to the magic beans.

... not meeee.

Strange, it smells very edible like cinnamon, appears to have a very hardcore shell. Took quite a bit of pressure to penetrate into the cavern of a seed that is half hollow and half porcelain like stuff that when broken looks like a chizzled chunk.

With the porcelain stuff sprinklef on half a bowl of marijuaaana the size of two jellybeans was smoked with pot. Seeming extra highhh, thinking different than just this good weed. But something is different. It almost added to the high as if it were a very weak psychedelic but also sedating.

Vision:
Things aren't blurry when trying to focus, but rather objects appear to eventually vibrate back into their natural, actual state of being separated from neighboring shapes, lines, curves, patterns, depth and shadows.

After 20 minutes, feeling a little tired and the head is slowly turning into gold bars. Like the beginning of a datura "adventure" OMFG OMFG NOOOOOOO haha. Melting into the couch, only knowing how nice a shower could be, especially after getting off work.
"

Will report back tomorrow after this person's sleep.

Re: Entada rheedii

Crazy, the Doktor has been polishing one of these seeds for a project recently, now there's even more incentive to cut it open and turn it into a box.

Wish it hadn't taken so long to hit this identification, last year the Doktor made another boxo out of one of these and lost the insides, would have done things differently.

On the plus side an associate will be heading to Costa Rica soon and will hopefully be able to find some more of these fancy seeds. Luckily there are still a few seeds in the lab so a series of experiments is being planned, once successful germination takes place the properties of the seeds them selves will be up for examination.

These are really fantastic seeds, they used to make them into snuff boxes. Saw them open, attach a hinge and there's enough space to keep all sorts of things. They can be polished to a mirror like finish with 600 grit sand paper. They are a little hard to drill and saw, as they are hard and round, so they aren't the easiest things to work, but who knows, maybe better techniques are taught in dreams? The ones the Doktor has worked with were heart shaped, but seems there are ones that are actually more cuboid and boxed shape, making the addition of hinges quite easy.

Google Book link to info on germination and a key to figure out which species a seed belongs to.

If one is on a beach, it is well worth searching through the seaweed line for these seeds, they are built to float on the ocean for years and can be found world wide, there's even reports of them washing up in England.

Well keep an eye out here for more info and pictures as things develop.

Love.
Potter.

Re: Entada rheedii

These beans can be found online and in some seaside shops, I picked some up in Cornwall, England. They are called SeaBeans, "Lucky" Beans, or African Dream beans.
Something you might like to consider is the myths of "Fairy Stories" which often relate tales that make no sense to the 'straight', but might from the perspective of the 'heads'.
The one that springs to mind in this case is the story of Jack and the Bean stalk.
You may recall the story, Jack trades his family cow for 'magic' beans and is scolded for his folly by his Mother. Later he allegedly plants the beans and ascends a vine and 'sees' giants. Later still he turns up with a bag of gold.
If you realise that to this day in remote parts of Siberia you can still barter one magic mushroom for one reindeer then you realise this was perhaps simply a bartering form of a drug deal going down.

Re: Entada rheedii

There are no modern definitive scientific research reports on Entada rheedii, several active compounds, essential oils and alkaloids have been discovered and sited in the literature. It is believed that the plant produces, in varying quantities, saponins, fatty oils and other potentially psychoactive alkaloids. One report claims that the seeds can contain as much as 18% essential oils, which may account for this plant’s magical properties and it ability to help induce lucid dream states...SO there ya go.
