I just refused my first subway search today...in a way I am glad that
it is over, because I don't have to think anymore about how I would
behave in the situation.

Everything was very cordial and polite, they asked me to step aside to
have my bag searched and I asked them if I had the right to refuse,
they said I did...so I left the station and took a bus (which is
probably what a terrorist would do).

I am as scared of the possibility of "terrorism" as anyone else, being
in any kind of disaster, man-made or natural, is many people's
nightmare scenario, including mine. However, I do not think that fear
of something that "might" happen is any reason to consent to an
intrusive personal search.

There is a total war mentality taking over the world and the
incarceration/control system is becoming bigger and bigger and bigger
on the heels of this mentality. As a result, more of us are becoming
prisoners of fear which makes it feel normal to be treated like a
criminal by our government.

in a way i cant blame them either, but at the same time i think its utter bullshit, i know they arent stupid they know what kind of people to look for and some of us suite a druggy image more than others. I am on the drug user looking side, but have learned to deal with it because in at least some level, you have to respect what their doing.

They do indeed.

The Christmas Island Transportation Authority usually does a very good job with them, too.

Good for you, man. I haven't had the chance to refuse a search yet, which I
think is a good thing.
