Head shops are illegal in my state

So the "convienience" stores sell papers,blunts and bluntwraps (for tobacco use only).

Tobacco stores sell glass pipes (for tobacco use only).

The "good old days" were great, a headshop on every streetcorner.

Even in California, Head Shops sell everything "for tobacco use only."


Years ago (say 20 years ago), I could go into a Head Shop and discuss smoking Marijuana with some of their products. But by 1985, they started putting up signs: "Nothing in this Store is to be used for an Illegal purpose."


So (unless I am at a Med Pot Club), every time since I have been told to say "Tobacco" instead of "Pot" when I am discussing how to use it (or how I plan to use it). They do this (I am told) because if I tell them I plan to use it for "Illegal" purposes, that they may end up getting busted by The Man.


I didn'tthink this was much of anything, until the day I heard that Tommy Chong (of the Cheech and Chong marijuana-is-Good comedy team) got indicted for making Pipes (and advertising their use for Marijuana). Good Grief. THEN I got it.


It seems Crazy. This is a Legal product. But, if you want to do certain things with it ... POOF, now it's an Illegal product. Go figure.

This concept will be much easier to understand if you think of this: would a hardware-store owner sell you a chainsaw if you told him you were going to kill someone with it? I'm not saying smoking marijuana is equal to murder, but both are illegal, however there are legal uses for both bongs and potentially dangerous tools.

we have tons of head shops here in michigan, and every year we have a "hash bash" and people sell bongs and stuff on the street out of little carts. in the head shops though you can't say "bong" or anything, you have to call them "waterpipes" and there are signs that are like "don't look in this case if you're under 18!" but people are pretty lax around here.

In a headshop in my hometown i have seen 13 year old kids buying anything they want. Including salvia and whatever other legal drugs they sell, they even sell them ciggarettes.

There are headshops around in my area. When you walk in, you get the impression that everything in the store is intended to be used for illegal purposes, as there is no tobacco being sold in the store. Also, the themes are usually pretty trippy. Half the stores are run by hippy type folks who appear thoroughly stoned.

Selling Salvia to 13 year old kids is a bad idea. First of all they are in fact too young to smoke Salvia. Secondly selling Salvia to minors is a great way to get Salvia schedualed in that state and could lead to a federal schedualling as well.

Reading your post again however I see you are in Canada. Hopefully nothing like this is going on in the USA.

good point Dogears, its the dumb shit that gets these drugs banned....like the dude that (unfortunately) killed himself on salvia during a trip... give it a few more incidences that get made public by the news or even in general and there will be a federal ban.

"head shops" are still illegal (although the "tobacco" store does sell some fine bongs and class pipes)
