Compazine (Prochlorperazine): Recreational Use?

I know Compazine (Prochlorperazine) is used to stop vomiting, but it also mentions that its a tranquilizer. Is there any recreational use at all?

Do Not Try To Get High Off Antipsychotics

Old post, SWIJ knows but she is embracing the "No post should go unanswered" ethic.

Chlorpromazine is an anti-psychotic and one of the older/particularly nasty ones.

It is of no recreational value.

Adverse Effects include: Extapyramidal symptoms, Tardive dyskenesia, Acute dystonic reactions, Parkinsonism, Anti-Cholinergic side effects (dry mouth, blurred vision, constipation, urinary retention), Sexual dysfunction and impotence, Hyperprolactinaemia leading to gynaecomastia in men and galactorrhoea in women (breast development and milk production for the non-medically minded). It also causes nausea, weight gain and sedation.

She could go on but would only be replicating a GOOGLE search.

It's only use is for the treatment of psychosis (and nausea) and there are many better drugs around for both.

swims been prescribed anti-psychotic medication once and the effects are very heavy and not pleasant unless your so over stimulated and excitable you would have nothing to gain from using anti-psychotics

Re: Do Not Try To Get High Off Antipsychotics

Hi BQ. I'm a psych nurse so just pointing out that prochlorperazine and chlorpromazine are two different drugs(Stematil and Largactil) The rest of what you say is pretty much compatable. Yeah, when you get your travel sickness pill it's the same anti-psychotic as used to treat psychosis. In the UK we still use it and Haloperidol to treat nausea in patient's who receive high doses of opiates for say treatment of cancer or radiation therapy.
They are the old style 'typical' antipsychotic. According to the National Institute of Clinical Excellence(NICE), we should only use them when the new style 'atypical'(Olanzapine, Respiridone etc) does't work.
Cost of one month's medication is 10's for the new atypicals.

The UK National Health Service is on the verge of collapse, due in part to the extortionate price of modern medication.

*duncdunc68: Please take time to READ THE RULES. They are here...

http://www.drugs-forum.com/forum/misc.php?do=cfrules

Please do NOT post prices (except in the context of a news report/story with a documented source). Bear in mind that not abiding by the rules here can and will get SWIY banned. Thankyou.

BTW: Welcome aboard, SWIJ likes to see other healthcare professionals here.

Re: Compazine (Prochlorperazine) help

Cheers BQ. I've re-read the rules but I'll probably still break them again, not intentionally but who know's?
