Psychoactive chocolate drink
Well, most of you are going to laugh at this, but it is all true - Psychoactive chocolate drinks? You have to use bakers chocolate and cocoa. Eating a pound of Hershey's will make you puke and feel shitty. However - Hershey's COCOA POWDER and BAKING CHOCOLATE can give you a langourous sense of relaxation and well-being if you do it right, and in a rather excessive quantity. This is not for the calorie conscious or the non-lover of chocolate. This is 12oz of the strongest cocoa you will ever taste. It is smokey, dark and bittersweet. Here's how to do it: Make yourself some hot milk - about 8 oz. After you bring it to a boil, stop, and stir in enough cocoa powder to create a deep, rich, reddish brown color. Now saturate the solution with sugar. Next, add about 2 oz of cream. This should make the color much lighter. Add cocoa until it gets darker again. Now, heat it so that it is quite hot - don't let it boil again. Now, stir in about 2oz of bakers chocolate and as much sugar as you want. This should make a very dark brown, somewhat soupy, sweet mess. Drink it slowly - sip it over the course of a half-hour, maybe an hour. Don't rush it. This prevents the unpleasant, sweaty feeling of nausea that I associate with eating 'too much' chocolate (as if there is a such thing!). I usually begin to feel relaxed and comfortable and happy after about 30 minutes. This feeling builds over the next hour and then slowly fades. I'm not sure if this is because of the alkaloids in the chocolate, or if it is due to the MASSIVE endorphin release that is supposedly happening when you eat something sweet and tasty. Whatever it is, I enjoy it. It is a good time to just sit down and chill out, read the paper, talk to friends, type a friendly e-mail. It isn't a mind-blowing natural high, and it is not an entheogen by and stretch. It's just a good feeling that comes from something palatable and fun to make. Happy Cocoa-making. Edited by: AS11 |

Chocolate does contain theobromine which is mildly psychoactive so this probably will work, but I doubt it will amaze anyone.

theobromine is a xanthine alkaloid, and those suck, it's not psychoactive, it's just a body stimulant like caffeine and theophylline, you'll just shake like a motherfucker

When i am feeling grumpy or sad, chocolate can make me feel better.
Sometimes i pour melted chocolate into hot coffee, adding pepper to this brew will even make it better. cinnamon is also great to add, as well as anise/aniseed. Cacao (like e.g. green tea and red wine) also contains strong anti-oxidizing compounds, which, to the advantage of one's health, eliminate harmful free radicals. Edited by: george |

yes indeed, i'll be on my way to the supermarket soon because i have ran out of chocolate- AGAIN
damn AS11, are you male or female? i am male, as you would have guessed from my name... your name doesn't give me a clue... i would like to know because i've noticed that many people in western cultures regard it somewhat strange for a man to crave for chocolate, according to them it is taboo for a man to admit to his desire for chocolate... as if chocolate indulgence were only for women... well, i can only say one thing to narrow-minded uptight folk like that and it is going to be explicit: f*ck you! You wrote about Hershey(s), that is an american brand, right? Are you from the USA? (If you would prefer not to say I would respect that of course)Edited by: george |

Caffeine and Theobromine are almost the same exept the fact that Theobromine contains less Carbon and Hydrogen.
Chocolate also contains serotonin, histamine, salsolinol, methyltetrahydroisoquinoline, phenethylamine, telemethylhistamine, spermidine, p-tyramine,3-methyloxytyramine, tryptamine, and spermine. Not much but if youeata VERY concentrated chocolate/cocoa then you will definatly feel them. EDIT: I didn't write it, he did: http://www.erowid.org/experiences/exp.php?ID=8399oh and I live in Israel. Well said, george ![]() If you're eating chocolate for psychoactive effects, get dark stuff - the darker the better. A full bar of that '99% cocao solids' type is enough for the effects. http://www.chocolate.org is a reallysuperb page on chocolate as a drug by the prodigious David Pearce |

Theobromine is believed to be the drug responsible for chocolates psychoactive effects. You can buy theobromine containing diet pills, just search for it on google. The effects are said to be stimulating, but calmer than caffiene and more on the euphoric side. I would never eat enough chocolate to get the effects though, otherwise I would buy those theobromine diet pills for they're intended purpse.
Another thing, many people claim that chocolate contains caffiene. I have seen many sources claim that there is absolutely no caffiene in chocolate and it is only an additive in chocolate bars and such. Serotonin is also in chocolate, but it has no effect since it does not pass the blood/brain barrier. |

Cocoa powder is cheaper, contains less fat than chocolate, therefore less calories, and has fewer carbohydrates than chocolate as well. So you may try cocoa powder instead of "chocamine". I've noticed that ordinary cocoa powder also has an appetite decreasing effect. In order to be able to notice these effects i have to use about 2 tablespoons full of regular cocoa powder (what a lot!) in a mug, which makes up for a strong powerful cocoa drink (be sure to serve hot: add water, milk or orange juice). If i use less cocoa, the effects are negligible. WARNING: this much is unbearable for people who don't like chocolate. (suitable for chocolate freaks only: the sheer force of it may cause vomiting...)Edited by: george |

Nope, I drank a 2 table spoon cocoa powder (added 4 teaspoons of sugar) and it wasn't so strong.. Infact, I didn't feel any effects (Well.. A little) and I still had an appetite (Probably because my body is used to chocolate because I ate LOTS of it when I was little).Edited by: AS11 |
