Hi,

Anyone know what kind of laws they have in Brazil regarding drug use
and possesion. If i am a tourist there . .can i get busted and sent to
jail if i have like 3gr of cocain on me? Is it even illegal?

If you have some experience of drugs in brazil and the laws and such stuff it would be great to get some input.

Don't buy in the favelas or the police will catch you on the way down. In theory people are allowed a small amount of personal coke in brasil but the cops will try to shake you down for a bribe anyway.

You can buy from people at crowded bars or nightclubs more safely. You won;t go to jail for a small amount but they may take all the cash they find on you at the time. Pretend not to speak portuguese (just in case you do) and smile a lot if the cops stop you - none of them speak english and they'll have to let you go.

Just don't think about trying to bring any home with you coz the alternative isn;t nice http://www.roadjunky.com/work/smugglingjails.shtml

Don´t even dare entering a fabella unless you are in company of someone from there, and even if you are, better don´t do it. Fabellas are full of decent working people, but also of crack smoking 10 yeard old gangsters who would´nt hesitate shooting you down to steal you. And that´s the kind of person you are meeting in teh favella if you go looking for C. SWIM was lucky just to be stolen on the way out, but he was pointed with 3 guns. Also was lucky to be packing the C in a bag inside his mouth or he would have lost his money and his dope.

This is what I was told...

when you are in Peru, watch out for the men. (they will mug you..)

when you are in Chiles, watch out for the women. (they will try to marry you..)

when you are in Brazil, watch out for the cops. (they will hassle you..)

Jokes aside.. I read here in D-F that drugs are decriminalized in Brazil... search.. and you find. =)

Re: Drugs in Brazil

Cocaine is illegal in Brazil. Possession of a small amount (like 3g.) is a lesser crime but it's still a crime.

Don't even try to travel it with you! It´s a federal crime. International traffic. You can root on jail for that. What can be better than a 6x6 meter cage with about 30 nice horny guys (rappists and sick murderers in the best of the cases)?

And watch out for the cops. Be nice and polite. If they don't like you a kilo may misteriously appear in your bag...

Re: Drugs in Brazil

It is definitely a controlled substance in Brazil, and I think that you can get in trouble if you have a lot of it on you. If you have just a little then you may be alright, but I know enough to tell you that you should definitely not even think about taking any out of Brazil.

Two things don't combine: drugs and airports. At least in Brazil...

Re: Drugs in Brazil

SWIM was in Rio in 1999 and met two tourists who had tried to score via a working girl the night before. She took them to a bar where they purchased a small quantity and were promptly arrested by the guy they scored off. He and his partner escorted them back to their hotel room where they were fined all the cash they had - nearly two thousand dollars. Judging by some of the stories to have emerged from the prison system in Brazil recently, they got off lightly.
