Seconal (secobarbital) is a barbituate family sleeping aid/hypnotic drug. Read all about it here ...

(Broken link, please copy and paste info if possible, so info isn't lost)

Or visit your friendly google neighbour and you'll find many pages describing this pharmaceutical .

Re: Seconals?

aww, im shocked these aren't talked about more on here. My little pony remembers taking these, with a combo of carisoprodol (somas) and ....well i really dont remember what else but it was the most instense high my pony had while being awake still.

if i remember right they use these in hospitals for patients right before they undergo surgery. great stuff, but extremely hard to get ahold of

Is that phenobarbital?

I don't think many Barbiturates are made these days

Carisoprodol and Mempromabate are pretty close to barb's SWIM has been told

Re: Seconals?

Seconol is a fast acting barbituate. Phenobarbital is a slow acting barbituate. Pentobarbital and thiopental are ultra fast acting barbituates and are used as anesthetics. Seconol is recreational because it kicks in fast, has a euphoric peak and a relatively short duration. Phenobarbital takes hours to kick in, has no peak and takes forever to wear off. Great anti-seizure drug, though.
Seconols were sometimes called reds. They are fantastic but unavailable anywhere anymore. The problem with barbituates is that they are deadly when overdosed and this can be done easily once a solid habit is established, which is also easy if supplies are available. Combined with alcohol they can depress respiration at lower doses. Withdrawals are physical and potentially deadly, and consist of a combination of deleium tremens and GHB withdrawal. In some places at some time in the past, they were cheap as dirt and readily available.
Benzos replaced barbituates in medicine as sedative/hypnotics since it is much harder to die from a benzo overdose (less respiratory depression). They are not quite as lethal when combined with alcohol though it is still a dangerous combination. They are a controlled substance almost everywhere.

nice, very informative. my pony's mom had told him about seconals when she was growing up, "reds" as she reffered to them as. so when my pony grew up he ran a successful "music" store and had access to some pretty crazy stuff from what i was told. he said he asked a guy that stated he could get him anything at any time. my pony told him hed pay whatever the cost was to get ahold of some seconal's. low and behold the sucker came the next day with 6 of them. this was 1999 in america. my pony doesnt know where he got them nor does he want to.

my pony does understand how one can die from these and my pony was warned heavily before they were given to him.

SWIM always had a hunch that Meprobamate is closley related to the barbituate family. Thats why SWIM wonders why Carisoprodol, which metabolizes into Meprobamate is given out as a script pretty commonly.

Does anyone know how strong Meprobamate is compared to Seconal? SWIM is just curious

Re: Seconals? (Secobarbital)

Carsiprodol has very little in common with rapid acting barbituates. SWIM feels that somas have no high at all, just muscle relaxation. Then again, SWIM knew someone with a soma addiction, so tastes may vary.

Re: Seconals? (Secobarbital)

Barbiturates were used by some heroin addicts sometimes-- varieties like tuinol were very potent. Some people even IVed them, which was disastrous, as they are alkaline and destroy tissue ('barbs' addicts were covered with scar tissue, all their veins having collapsed.).

Mixed with alcohol, they made people very drunk and uncoordinated. Never one of SWIMs favourites!

Re: Seconals? (Secobarbital)

SWIM liked tuinol as well, but seconol was much cheaper and easier to get. SWIM never even considered injecting the stuff - worked great orally and a few shots really kicked them in.
Of course, the withdrawal was heinous...

Re: Seconals? (Secobarbital)

SWIM found tuinol turned him into a clumsy, staggering mess, especially if he was stupid enough to drink as well. Once he woke covered in bruises after a binge-- can't feel a thing.. Never took enough to get withdrawals which are supposed to very bad.

Re: Seconals? (Secobarbital)

swim has taken seconal. 250 mg is his preffered recreational dose. swim doesnt find these particularly euphoric, more intoxicating than anything else. while intoxicated swim was often clumbsy, as though very very drunk. dont get swim wrong, he compares barbiturates to alchohol not because the experience matches wholly or fully, but the intoxication seems to have many of the same qualities subjectively.

Re: Seconals? (Secobarbital)

Swim had quite a few of those.Very strong
Also enjoyed the tuinal which were 3 colors blue, brown and maroon
called rainbows I think. The only benzo swim feels comes close is triazolam/Halcion.5mg.

Re: Seconals? (Secobarbital)

Barbituates, such as Seconal and Tuinal (yes - they were called Rainbows, while Seconals were called Reds) had another name: When they were easily available - people brought them to bars. Had a drink or three. And swallowed these suckers. They were then called....Ready?...Geronimos!

Geronimo was the shout people gave when they parachuted out of aircraft during World War II. In this case - they were jumping without a parachute. THUD! Down on the ground they went.

Don't let SWIM play with these with alcohol. 200mg (alcohol-free version of SWIM) is a maximum dose. These drugs can kill SWIM very easily with under 1gm. No shit. Watch it!
