Is it true: Typical American Beer only 3%?
Is it true that the standard volume of alcohol in the typical American beer is only 3%?! Someone told me this a few days ago and I simply couldn't believe it. Is it true?!

I think that the standard american "schwag" beers are about 3.5 to 4% alc by volume. It's something Canadians like to make fun of America for.

I've been to England and their beer is the exact same strength as it is here. Usually 4-5%.
Anytime I see a beer under 4%, I automatically ignore it simply because it's not worth going through my stomach if it's piss-water weak. |

Yea, bud and miller are around 4-5 % ABV. America has some decent beers like Sam Adams and such, but I typically don't buy American beer.

there's some decent micro-brew regional beers in the states that are 6-7% and malts going as high as 9% in some regions... but the standard Budlight, coors, "national brands" in the states are 3.5-4.5%

Sands,
I heard a report about that several weeks ago. Can't remember the details, but I do remember that the price was so high there's no fucking way I'ld even bother to try it. I'ld be better off buying a 1/2 gm of coke. |

its 2005 and North Carolina (usa) just passed a law that we can legally buy beer that has over 6% alcohol content. just a little behind the times here in the South |

Its around 2-3% in Brazil. Thats why l hate beer, id rather drink water
or orange juice instead. I usually drink nothing less than 15% (vermouths are my favorite). |

here in france and in many european countries, for the past15 years these cheap "superstrong" beers have popped up, like 8,6 ( 8° alcohol), amsterdam navigator etc...they go up to 10° or more, and are usually sold by 50cl cans for 1 or 2 euros. Bums love them, and and the "drink a 8,6 smoking a joint of hash" combohas beenpart of suburban ghetto culture for sometime now... the beers themsleves are not that great. I guess the Bavaria Red is kind of better, but really i'd take a shot of cachaça, my favorite liquor, over that anytime. average blond beer is 5° otherwise, and not great as france isn't really a beer country like the UK belgium (aahhhh) or germany. I've been drinking Asahi a lot, which goes great with food, japanese tradition... |

SWIM sees 5%-6% for the stuff he usually drinks, but admits that he rather
infrequently buys actual beer beer, and almost never domestics. |
