this probably won't be near the longest time other people may have
slept but for me i fell asleep at about 7pm one night and didnt wake up
until 6pm the next day....23 hours and i stayed up until 9pm when i
fell back asleep for another 8 hours. i gotta say that was the best
sleep i have ever had

On average (as my mom says), to be a well rested person in the AM i need an average of 12 hours of sleep a night. Back when i first joined this site, and i posted about my stupid experience when i got sick (who remembers?) i slept almost continusally for 2 and a half days, because anytime i moved i puked, and sleeping was the only way i felt better.

My guess is someone comming down off of a meth binge would be the longest.

I was once in Tel Aviv and the desert weather was something I wasn't
used to and I got somehow severly dehydrated from going out on a
weeklong bender.. for four days I slept for at least three days on and
off with the longest period lasting 23 hours. Once I realized what
happened the pain was INSANE.. seriously, when you watch movies and see
the guys walking through the desert dehydrated they never get that
across, how absolutely excruciatingly painful it is to be severly
dehydrated.

There was a computer nerd who lived near me who supposedly would only
sleep a few hours each night so that he could manage being a student,
work, program, and game. He would then spend most of the entire
weekend sleeping.

Never been able to sleep more than 12 hours or so, and I've gone on 3-day binges where I don't sleep.

Around 12 hours, coming down off of meth.

Once I fell asleep at around 6:00 pm, completely trashed, and woke up at 7:50 am the next day, or so I thought. I thought for sure that I was going to be late for school, and even called my brother to ask for a ride. He informed me that it was 7:50 pm. I thought I had slept for fourteen hours, but was only sleeping a couple of hours. My brother then became understandably suspicious of my recreational habits.

Stayed up for 4 days straight, caffeine helped me with that.. then the
caffeine stopped working. This was more of an experiment, to
understand what happens without sleep.. and trust me, your mind isn't
clear after 4 days.. Anyway, then I slept for a good 36 hours.

i don't really now. But what i've started to notice is that regardless of the sleeping time I'm more awake if I get up before 11 am ( spent some university years getting up around 1pm until i noticed that).

now I aim for 8 am if i don't go to bed to late.

another thing i've noticed is that I'm often more alert and energetic throughout the day on 7 hours sleep than 12 hours. Consciousness isn't the same. I guess this is probably due to cueing in with my sleeping cycles. Do you folks feel *more tired* than rested after oversleeping ? I surely do, if i'm healthy...

oh and people who do cocaine...what about the wake up crisp and sharp after 5 hours of sleep partying all night thing...weird

SWIM has slept 36 hours before, after having stayed up on seven days on a
caffeine binge. SWIM explains that he did this mostly to see if he could.

I sleep longer when I have a cold.

I get from 5-to-7 hours a night. If I get "behind" in my sleep (or a pretty stressful day), occasionally I take a one-hour nap.

But when I have a cold, there is at least one day where I sleep 10 hours. The way a cold affects me is: The First, Third, Fifth ... days of the cold are easy-going. But the Second, Fourth, Sixth days clobber me.

Last year I had a Doozie. It was the Fifth day (a day I could actually breathe without coughing). I laid down at 5:30 PM to take a one-hournap. Uh huh. When I woke up, I looked at the Clock. It said 7:53. A few minutes later I realized that I had slept for 14 hours. So far in my life, that's the record for sleeping straight.

Back a few years, I got the Flu. One day I slept for 18 hours, but it was in one-and-two-hour blocks.
