Getting off adderall (Long Post...Please at least Read Some!)

IF YOU WANT TO SEE THE QUESTION/SUMMARY, SCROLL TO THE BOTTOM.IF YOU READ ALL THIS AND RESPOND SWIM WILL BE ETERNALLY GRATEFUL! First off SWIM is was not sure whether to post this thread in the some for all forum or the one designated for adderall. This is SWIM's question of how others got off adderall/if SWIY has encountered a similiar situation to SWIM. SWIM feels a necessity to include a particular amount of this kids background to give other SWIMMERS an accurate depiction of SWIMs current situation. IF SWIY IS PRESCRIBED ADDERALL AND ENJOYS YOUR LIFE DO NOT READ THIS IT WILL PROBABLY KILL SWIYs buzz!

-Age 9: SWIM is prescribed ritalin (5mg) for impulsive behavior/trouble concentrating; stays on it for 6 months. Feels this predisposed SWIM to later drug use.

-Age 14:SWIM consumes mary jane for the first time, likes it alot. Gets prescribed adderall 30mg daily, begins doing better in school, improved relationship with parents. SWIM stays on addy for 6 months, then stops taking it by the kids personal choice. Smokes marijuana multiple times in a week. Tries ecstacy 4 times. Smokes cigs occasionally.

Age 15: SWIM is sent to rehab for smoking marijuana daily. This was a vaction for SWIM, as it was one of the nicest rehabs in the country. SWIM went completely nuts after the all the chemicals were out of his system. Impulsivity returned with a vengeance. SWIM was snorting lines of coffee creamer with others in there, smoking green tea, anything imaginable to alter this kids reality. Gets out stays sober for a few months, then finds cocaine/alcohol at age 16.

Age 16: SWIM uses cocaine/alcohol daily but maintains in school with high b's and a few c's. SWIM was banned from hanging out with old friends so gradually become a loner. SWIM was kicked out of public school (skipping school) and instead of the alternative school went to a extremely small private school where people who either didn't fit in anywhere else went or those who had academic issues if SWIY will. There were a total of 4 guys at this school, 3 of them were addicts. One a junkie, one a xanax lover who smoked insane amounts of bud, and SWIM a cokehead/alcoholic. SWIM dabbles in meth but prefers the upper/downer combination. This school didn't even start until 1 PM and only lasted until 5:00(no school on Fridays) so it almost promoted a drug-users lifestyle.

Age 18:SWIM goes back to a different (adult) rehab. Many of those there, have been recently released from prison/mental unstable; there are constant conflicts. Conversations revolve around drug use or culture in one way or another. 28 of the 30 people SWIM was in with relapsed. Every type of individual was there, from a priest who was addicted to mouthwash to a 62 year old white middle-class, trust-fund, crackhead. SWIM learned many life lessons while in this place, but relapsed a few times upon release (no binges just one night stands).

Age:Rest of 18 through 20(Current) SWIM has been off cocaine/meth for a long time and can no longer drink due to a stomach condition recently discovered (Chrons disease). SWIM had a 6 month period of sobreity, which was painstakingly difficult (lived at halfway house). SWIM had no where else to go, and was not serious about 'the progam' (AA) but an alright liar. Gets kicked out after someone tells the manager SWIM did smoked bud (true). SWIM started smoking bud again and used xanax alot but could stop with relative ease. Didn't get involved in too many relationships, and was for all intents and purposes a loner outside of work/school. SWIM was fed up with not being able to accomplish what this kid felt was his full potential in college(age 20). Gets back on adderall 40mg a day, but doesn't take it everday (a 2mg bar to sleep usually) SWIM feels he has made significant accomplishments for his mental stability, but at the same time this kid knows this is a unsustaniable path. SWIM does not feel addicted but cannot possibly stop while school is still in session (for this semster at least). This kids life is good, he helps his parents around the house, gets relatively good grades, but doesn't really hang around anyone (everyone drinks, for SWIM seeing alcohol is like putting a seasoned steak in-front of a famished lion even tho it is extremely detrimental to his stomach) SWIM WANTS NOTHING MORE THAN TO BE OFF ALL MIND ALTERING SUBSTANCES! EVERY PSYCHIATRIST WANTS SWIM TO BE ON ANTI-DEPRESSANT, HE HAS TRIED THEM ALL AND ALWAYS EXPERIENCES VERY STRANGE SIDE EFFECTS! HE TAKES ST. JOHNS WORT WHEN FEELING DOWN AND IT WORKS GREAT, BUT WHEN OFF DRUGS SWIM HAS NO MOTIVATION/NO FEELINGS/NOTHING. SWIM HAS STAYED OFF DRUGS FOR EXTENDED PERIODS OF TIME (OVER 6 MONTHS BUT RELAPSED)! SWIM ACCEPTS HE HAS ALWAYS HAD CHEMICAL IMBALANCES IN HIS BRAIN, BUT WAS WONDERING HAS ANYONE BEEN THROUGH A SIMILIAR SITUATION AND GOTTEN COMPLETELY OFF EVERYTHING? (EVEN CIGS)!

Re: Getting off adderall (Long Post...Please at least Read Some!)

definately using more isnt going to help. if swiy wants to quit you have to do it. it will be tough but its better to be able to do shit without "needing" to get high... this will pass. swim moved away from home to stop using stimulants once, and used cold pills as a pick up on the real sleepy miserable days. that helped becasue he got bored of it quick.dont over do that though, psuedo is harder on the heart than amp in the long run. swim never quit smoking weed though. he wishes you luck!

SWIM appreciates SWIY!

SWIM doesn't think he'll be able to keep away from mary jane after he gets off paper though either. This kid will definitely take the advice on the cold medicine tho!
