Does taking to much adderall fuck with your head? My friend is talking purely from adderall, not sleep deprivation and what not. He has been popped 4 30 mg adderall bars throughout the day. 2 at first in the morning then another later and another about 30 minutes ago. He doesn't feel as sharp as he should. Kind of cloudy in his brain. He hasn't eaten a single thing alll day and it is now 6:19 PM.

He has also noticed he cannot spell as well as he used to. He notices he is wondering how to spell words he once used to be able to spell with no problem. He used to take pride in his spelling abilities but feels they are dwindling. He has smoked pot for about 3-4 years now and is also wondering what exactly science has shown about its effects on the brain. He has been taking adderall for about 5-6 months and abused the shit out of it along the way. What kind of effects do adderall have on the mind after many months of off an on abusing?

That being said, it's hard to say when it comes to what permenant changes a drug can put on the mind. This is mainly because we as people are all different in all aspects, including neurochemistry. All these things depend on how long swiy has been dosing, how much, how swiy takes care of himself (excersize, eating properly, sleeping well) and many other factors. No one here can say for sure the extent of damage that swiy may have done with his drug use.

This leads swim to press that swiy as his own individual should study extensively and get to know how drugs work in both good ways and bad before he takes any substance. Ignorance is not bliss in this case.

Not eating would probably be a big thing that is making swiy not able to think straight ... you brain needs to maintain proper blood glucose levels with out proper amounts of food (specifically carbs) you will feel lethargic and not think as clear headed also you body has down regulated it's self to such high stimulation now you need to let you body adjust back so the normal levels of stimulation naturally secreted by the body to actually start working again. So all in all swiys best bet if they want to start feeling like them selves again is to eat proper take some multivitamins lay off the adderall and maybe even work out. Only after doing this for a few weeks should swiy say they feel better again it takes time.

MOST DEFINITELY.

Amphetamines can cause classic hardcore mental disorders... usually temporary, but can be as far as taking the user into a psychotic state where he is dissociated from reality... a state very similar to schizophrenia...

paranoid delusions, ideations, etc...

in other words... amphetamines are classically known to "fuck with your head" in fact have much greater potential to do so than many powerful psychedelics such as LSD...

long term depression, anxiety, psychosis, schizophrenia, motor tics (uncontrollable movements similar to tourette's) are all potential complications of amphetamine abuse.

amphetamines are profoundly neurotoxic (degrading dopamine pathways in the brain related to motivation, organization, concentration, speech, movement, and mood)

your friend needs to stop... even as an adult amphetamine abuse can have long term consequences, as a young adult or teenager this is even more true as the mind is still developing some of these pathways...

honestly, amphetamines are more dangerous when it comes to mental well-being than powerful opiates like heroin in many cases... amphetamine abusers, particularly methamphetamine often have long-term mental impairments particularly related to speech and verbal acuity...

the pot may have a temporary effect on his concentration and this may be contributing to his symptoms, but it is much safer than amphetamine and the effects are usually temporary, however in someone under 21 this may not be entirely true...

your friend needs help i'm afraid... he is suffering from sleep & food deprivation... definitely contributing to his symptoms...

he honestly needs to stop completely and just crash... it will take a few weeks/months for him to get back to feeling right again probably... he'll probably sleep a lot for a while and feel tired and depressed and just mentally "not all there"

doesn't sound good honestly.

get him some l-tyrosine, b-vitamins, food, rest, and maybe some SAMe, these should all help replenish his dopamine stores and make the crash less severe.

sorry if this is a little preachy for a drug forum... but responsible use is still important.

Thanks a bunch for all your input. He did get a twitch in the ridge of his nose for a few days after but all in all is good now. He ended up using the rest of his adderall that night though. its amazing the way he justifies things, "If you take the rest tonight, you wont have to worry about not sleeping for awhile." seriously bull shit.. he knows.

He still notices the speech thing though. Its hard to find the correct words when he is talking, and things don't come out quite right. Anyway, thanks again.

P.S. No worries about being preachy, its good, solid information. He's all for that.

Of course he's talking about abuse. Like his doctor would tell him to do that kind of shit.
