A Longmont police officer who was arrested last week on suspicion of giving prescription drugs to a confidential informant, with whom investigators suspect he was having a relationship, was charged Friday with numerous crimes including two felonies.
Jack Kimmett, a 28-year veteran of the force, appeared Friday in a courtroom at the Boulder County Jail, where he was charged with theft, felony possession of a controlled substance, felony distribution of a controlled substance and official misconduct.
Kimmett was released from jail last week after posting $50,000 bond. His next court appearance is Dec. 10.
Investigators suspect Kimmet took Vicodin from his wife and gave the pain medication to a woman who once worked as an informant for the Longmont Police Department, according to an arrest affidavit.
Longmont detectives received a tip in July that launched the investigation. They interviewed numerous people who said they had first-hand knowledge of Kimmett providing Vicodin, Methadone, Percocet and Oxycontin to the informant.
One person told police that Kimmett pulled people over and confiscated their drugs without arresting them.
