hey guys, Today me and a friend were watching the science channell and it had a special on this and time travel. This for some reason intrigued the hell out of me. It showed examples of how its possible, bit about subatomic atoms, ect. Just wanted to bring it up, what do yall know about it, what are your views on it? Thought it was a great mindfuck to think about. Edit: if yall know a good internet read or free ebook somewhere, let me know. Edited by: korky8097 |

If you ask me for the best SCI-FI story about the subject, try "A fishermn from the inland sea" by Ursula K Le Giun. I think this kind of shows in tv are sofictional I´d stick with a good old SCI-Fi book.

i think he is referring to a documentary that explains scientific principles in theory. where as it is *theorhetically* possible for paralell universes/dimensions to exist. not sci-fi.

yeah, what ventrue said, although i might check that book out. I
dono what the name of it was, i think it was time travel: something something. dont know why but i just really interested me, i checked out more in depth stuff on the internet, i found a site if yall want to have something to wrap your mind around or are just high, you should check it out. Has some cool interactive things including things about dimentions higher than the 3rd and shows you what a rough 4 dimentional hypercube might look like. http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/elegant/ I know pbs is kinda gay but its got some cool stuff if this stuff interests you. It even has hour long episodes to watch for free. |

Hi all I really English physicist Roger Penrose's "Shadows of the Mind". I had to struggle to get through it, though. The book is more about the physical mechanics behind consciousness in the brain ("quantam entanglement" he calls it), but it also addresses parallel universes. Ricky Tarr |

The whole alternate universe stuff stems mostly from String (and M-Theory) ... since these theories are the 'basis' theories (in other words, quantum mechanics comes from string theory). it is still a widely unknown and untested theory with much more study needed, but needless to say string theory has answered many previously unanswerable questions and brought up a few new aspects of reality. If you want a good read on the topic I recomend "The Fabric of the Cosmos: Space, Time and the Texture of Reality" by Brian Greene Not an easy topic to describe, but he does a reasonable job of dumbing it down. ... O and I just noticed korky linked to the PBS website. That is an EXCELLENT series based on Briane Greenes first book on string theory (aptly named The Elegant Universe). The Fabric of the Cosmos is the so called 'sequal', but is more suited to topics of multiple dimensions, time-slices, quantum-entanglement, higgs, etc. The movies are good, but dont really go into too much depth with regards to the whole alternate universe thing (they basically describe what strings are). |

quinone (or any-one interested)...try The Dancing Wu Li Masters by Gary Zukav. Very understandable "laymen's" description of quantum phyiscs/mechanics and the reality beneath reality. Zukav is not a physicist and so puts everything into terms that can be understood by someone with absolutely no background in physics (or any science for that matter, as in my case!!). p.s.--PBS is far from "kinda gay", IMHO....PBS and NPR are the only media not completely run by the machine. They provide the only domestic news that is even remotely trustworthy, not to mention shit like NOVA. Edited by: NeedleInTheHay |

Another point of view ... try the books, videos and courses of RAMTHA, or references to the "Ramtha School of Enlightment" located in Wash. State. Quantum theory, consciousness, mind and brain, universe, spirit and soul, quantum field, reallity, life after death, other planes/reallities. This point of view is kind of philosophical/religious and not much based on "hard" science, but if you give it a chance, and don't drop the issue for its nonsense agains typical concepsand for its incredibility, maybe you will find interesting concepts. When the phenomena studied is so overwhelming, when the ideas don´t fit in our heads, then phylosophy and science come together again. |
