Hydromorphone muscle twitches

SWIM has taken dilaudid for the past 3 weekends, upping his dose a little every time (20mg, 24mg, and 28mg tonight). SWIM had no tolerance before 3 weekends ago (no opiates at all). dilaudid has been giving him tense, twitchy muscles.. He searched online for this side effect and everywhere he look says this is a symptom of overdose.. SWIM hasn't died yet. Should he be worried?
He also tapered off 2mg klonopin/day over a 2 week period just a few days before he started using hydromorphone and this has made his muscles quite tense as to start with.
So anyone got any advice for that poor fool?

Re: Hydromorphone muscle twitches

for one, SWIM thinks that taking anywhere near 20 mg of hydromorphone for any opiate naiive individual is a very bad idea, as this is roughly equivelant to 150-200 mg of morphine (although at a low oral bio-avail this isn't overly dangerous)
still, one might suggest swiy taper down the dose mg's a little bit, to be on the safe side, it'd be a shame to hurt oneself instead of enjoying such a nice opi.
good luck in the future though

Re: Hydromorphone muscle twitches

i don't suppose the oral bio-availability applies since swim snorted it. and he is currently feeling pretty crappy...

facehouse added 67 Minutes and 57 Seconds later...

swim is finally beginning to feel better... still pretty crappy, but a not as tense than an hour or so ago. Im going to keep him up so that he doesnt die when hes sleeping.
i dont think he's gonna be messin' with that stuff again any time soon.

Re: Hydromorphone muscle twitches

20 mgs is a pretty big dose of dilaudid. in fact, big enough that i suspect if these pills were purhcased illegally they are not the real deal. 20 mg's for a non-user probably wouldn't be fatal, but definitly very very intense.

there are many possibilities, including high natural tolerance, but as i said, if these pills were purchased illegally it is possible that they were either fakes (which are fairly common on the street market, look at DEA resources, pills made at a cladestine press containing cheaper drugs than hydromorphon or oxycodone like H and a downer or tramadol) or mislabled as a higher dose

Re: Hydromorphone muscle twitches

so how long does it take to build up tolerance to that stuff (and to loose it)? because swim took 24mg 5 days ago and ended up saying f-it and taking 32mg.... He's found that water and pissing makes him feel better.

facehouse added 2 Minutes and 34 Seconds later...

Re: Hydromorphone muscle twitches

When SWIM was prescribed similar medication, SWIM would get the muscle twitches except it sucks if it's at the place where say SWIY broke their arm and you can't control it jumping around.

SWIM asked the Dr about it and he said it was a side-effect of taking an opiate...so SWIY might wanna do a google search about opiate side effects / muscle twitches to learn more.

Withdrawal

Since OxyContin users consume very large amounts of opiates, their withdrawals are extremely severe and uncomfortable. Fortunately, withdrawal from opiates is not life-threatening. Medical detoxification is recommended. Symptoms can include the following:
  • Runny nose
  • Sweating
  • Muscle Twitching
  • Severe muscle and joint pain
  • Headaches
  • Irregular heartbeat
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • High blood pressure
  • Fever
  • Insomnia
  • Dehydration
Contact a physician or a treatment facility if you have questions about detoxing from prescription narcotics.

Re: Hydromorphone muscle twitches

An experianced hydromorphone user named swim is going to weigh in here. 20mg, 24mg and such are not large doses for SOMEONE WHO IS TOLERANT, swim bolded that because he does NOT want to give the impression its okay to use that much. Is swiy using the hydromorph contin capsules? For some reason for swim, the time-released forms even when cooked and injected don't seem to be as effective in large doses as the tablets. Swim use to i.v two 30mg hydromorph comtin capsules at a time, but when he injected 3 8mg tablets, he would get more of the euphoria. BUT, this was after about a year of daily use. And yes, tolerance to this drug builds rapidly. This is an amazing drug for treating chronic pain because the usual opiate side effects wear off very fast. Unfortunatly, what most medical professionals call "side effects" is what the user classifies as his "buzz". Another good thing about this drug though, is the withdrawal wears off within a week(the worst of it). And yes, muscle spasms are normal, maybe not for everyone, but swim had three friends and himself who injected together on a regular basis, and two of the four users experianced muscle spasms. Remember, this drug, especially at large doses effects the central nervous system drastically, so pretty much anything goes for side-effects within the nervous system. Everyones body is different.
